Children's Literature - Kristin HarrisThe "Read and Play" series focuses on subject matter most young readers will find of interest. Photographs of a farm with lots of cows and two big barns get the readers attention immediately. Each spread highlights one word in the upper left corner. That word is included in at least one of the sentences below. Each sentence is very simple with the key words bolded. Who lives on a farm? Cows live on farms and eat grass. Sheep live on farms. Pigs live on farms. Chickens live on farms and lay eggs. Goats and pigs also live on farms. Donkeys live on farms and have big ears. Horses and dogs help farmers do their work. Two picture puzzles at the end of the book create an interactive experience. A teachers/parents guide provides numerous suggestions for related activities to engage the reader; such as counting the animals in the photo, asking questions about other farm animals, singing farm animal songs, discussing farm animal babies and moving like animals move.
