Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This interesting and colorful book follows the lives of two families in the Midwest who are truck farmers. The Thao family, immigrants from Laos, and the Kornder family, longtime residents of the area, both participate in large-scale farming, trucking their products to local farmers' markets for the consumer to buy. Although the Kornders have lived in the area for many years, their family once emigrated from Poland. Both families have a long history of family farming. Using colorful photos, the book chronicles life on a family farm, although this is farming on a large scale. The story stresses the families' reliance on each member to produce and bring in the harvest. It is a year-round process, and the text emphasizes the joy that the families take in producing beautiful fruits and vegetables. It is a wonderful story of how Americans of all origins have similar goals for their families. An excellent addition to diversity study. 2001, Carolrhoda Books, . Ages 7 to 9.
