    Unexpected disappointment

This is not one of the distinguished books on fashion. The brief descriptions are based more on the picture itself than the actual fashion icon listed on the pages. Several people are not included most notably Kevyn Aucoin. Who is one of the greatest make up artist of all time. He was a forbearer in creating makeup lines for women of all skin types. It was such a disappointment to see him omitted. If he is not one of the most influential icons of the fashion world than who is?

With fashion this beautiful, you need the hardcover

It goes without saying that anything published by Phaidon is not only high-quality, but thoroughly researched and innovative as well. The Fashion Book is no exception, featuring beautiful photographs of fashion icons from all recent eras of the industry. The histories behind some of these names can be surprising, or at the very least insightful as to the aesthetic philosophies which have penetrated and endured in fashion. There is also so much depth, as to the quantity of personages and variety of styles featured, that anyone who comes across the book is bound to find at least a few things that are fascinating to him or her, regardless of their love of clothing.

The book surprisingly misses one or two of today's top designers, however, a little perplexing especially when these people ARE referenced in the book, in the synopses of other designers, but not given their own vignettes and photographs as they are due. Nevertheless, The Fashion Book achieves a level of quality and beauty that sets it comfortably among Phaidon's marvelous selection of publications.

Last detail - the paperback "Mini Edtion" really is miniature, and anyone who has a chance to see the full-size hardcover edition may not be satisfied having these brightly hued, perfectly framed photographs reduced to just a few inches. Unless you're swimming in a mess at home, or have a natural affinity to all things miniaturized, go ahead and get the hardcover.
