Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Melanie Jones
This book follows clothing from the idea to the finished product that we see in stores around the country. The journey begins at the textile mill where the yarn is woven into fabric. The next step is the pattern making and then testing and sizing of the pattern, which gives a blueprint for the design. The journey continues when the garment is ready for production. With an explanation of the production and manufacturing, the text also mentions some of the problems with unsafe environments and low paying wages which are a major industry problem. The book is well organized and has photos of prominent fashion designers like Donna Karan and Diane von Furstenberg. Although understanding couture clothing may be over the heads of most readers, it is worth mentioning the high priced garments and the whopping prices that some designs sell for. An in-depth look at the fashion industry for most young readers but those with a flair for fashion will probably keep reading. Reviewer: Melanie Jones
