Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Come watch the needle move across the speedometer as young readers explore animal speeds. A kangaroo bounces thirty-five miles per hour across Australia, but a zebra zooms across the African plains at forty miles per hour. Travel with the animals as each page shows another animal moving faster than the previous animal. Young readers will learn about pronghorns, cheetahs, eagles, needle-tailed swifts, and peregrine falcons. Readers are also told the natural habitat and location for each animal. Colorful illustrations and an ever-increasing speedometer make this book a fun choice for learning about the speed of animals. The final pages provide young readers with a glossary and fun facts. Readers are also given a way to learn more on the web and in libraries. This nonfiction text, part of the "Animal Extreme Series," is an outstanding choice for pre-school or early-elementary classrooms or libraries. 2006, Picture Window Books, Ages 4 to 6.

K picked this book up from his school library. So K loves anything to do with animals, so when he saw this book he just had to get to find out how fast animals were.  Even though it was a great read, I felt more animals could have been involved. As there were only a few. I did enjoy how the author had the dashboard at the bottom that showed the speed of the animal in the picture. A really great book for the kids that would love to learn about a few animals that are fast and what their speed is.  Would I read this book again, probably if K brings it home again.
