Children's Literature - Kathy Leggett
Pets with super powers take on the world in this story in comic book format. A high jumping kangaroo named Jumpa is given the mission of protecting a newly born golden tortoise named Oros. Chaucey the evil cheetah is determined to capture the golden tortoise and use his golden powers to strengthen the evil forces. As cheetahs are the fastest animals on earth how can a kangaroo protect the baby tortoise? What follows is a story full of twists and turns that is loaded with comic book type action. The characters ZOOOOOM around and laugh HAHAHAHA as the hero acts versus the villain. The action and dialogue are depicted in big bold colorful text that jumps out at the reader and draws them into the fast paced action encouraging read aloud involvement. This new series of six books from the makers of DC comics pulls together the interest of reading a comic book with the appeal of super heroes and combines those factors into an easy to read early chapter book with less than 50 pages. The super pets in each book are owned by a different super hero or super villain and each pet has special powers which makes that pet capable of extreme behaviors. The end pages detail the word power used in the story with a quick definition along with a detailed list of all the super hero and villain pets. Readers are encouraged to visit the website for more information on each super pet and to find games, videos and contests. A high interest easy read that will appeal to both boys and girls alike. Sure to become a fast favorite in classroom and home libraries alike. Reviewer: Kathy Leggett
