    Excellent

If you are a seasoned veteran with fasting or a curious onlooker, you will love this book. He explains why we should, if we should and how we should. Then he goes through what to expect. I always read it when I fast because he's "talking me through it." The best book I've read on the subject. It is down-to-earth information.

    SeaShanty's Trial:Chapter 1

Shantykit woke up and stretched her legs. Her mother, Oceanwillow, smiled at her with love. "Good morning," the two cats said affectionatly. "I'm going into the woods today," Shantykit mewed. "You have to promise me that you will be careful," said Oceanwillow, poking her head out of the Waterclan den and eyeing the woods. "Of course, Mama," the kit purred. Oceanwillow bent her head low and quietly began speaking. "Shantykit, when you are in the woods..." she trailed off "...In those woods, anything could happen." Shantykit was confused, but she rubbed up against her mother and walked out. As she walked towards the woods, she thought about her mother's warning, but it scared her, so instead she began to day dream. As usual, her day dreams were about her father. She had never met him, and all her mother would say is that Shantykit looked like him. That made sense. Oceanwillow's brown pelt with turquoise eyes was nothing like Shantykit's gray pelt and almost colorless blue gray eyes. She wondered if her father was alive, and hoped that he was, but at the same time hoped he wasn't. If he was, she would have to accept that he left them by choice. If he was dead, she could pretend he went out hunting one day and was killed. Or that he died defending Waterclan. If he had died a noble death, he was definitley in StarClan, and he was looking out for her. Shantykit decided that her father must have been a magnificent warrior. She stopped daydreaming for a moment to take in her surroundings. She looked right, then left, then up, then forward. But I guess we'll never know what the area in front of her looked like, because a black cat was sitting there, its yellow eyes viciously narrowed. As soon as she noticed it, she yowled and ran. And ran. And ran...straight into another kit that was entering the woods. She didn't recognize him. He was orange, with brown eyes that were a startling contrast to his fur. "Ooph!" said both kits, rolling in opposite directions. Once they were back on there feet, the kits introduced themselves. "I'm Crossedkit," said the orange tom. "I'm Shantykit, and I've never seen you before," said Shantykit, knowing she wasn't being polite. "I've...uh...been around," said Crossedkit. "Oh. I just don't recognize you. Anyway, I wouldn't go in those woods today. There's an evil cat in there," said Shantykit. "That doesn't scare me...." said CrossedFlame "....and I'll be fine, and I'll see you later just to prove it," "Ok, but don't say I didn't warn you!" said Shantykit. As she ran back to the den, she had no intention of going. But she looked back. She never should've looked back.
