All About Vee was, to use a single word, unexpected. I didn’t realize there’d be so much depth in the novel, despite it’s length. I figured it’d be something between Gossip Girl and Secrets of my Hollywood Life but it was something so much better than that.

All About Vee is a must-read book for all young teenage girls, in my opinion, for the simple fact that Purtill illustrates how women who aren’t a size 0 are treated not only in LA and not only because they are striving to become actresses, but all across this country. She gives the weight epidemic that plagues so many young girls a story and luckily, Veronica does not change a thing about her weight throughout the book, which I was impressed with.

I moved to Los Angeles when I was 29 years old, 11 years older than Veronica is when she moves to Hollywood, yet the story felt true – bringing back all sorts of memories. As much as I enjoyed reading All About Vee, I cried more than once reading it. I am not an actress, but I am a plus-sized woman living in a skinny town. This is being marketed as a young adult book, but the concepts are pretty universal, and a true reflection of how it is here, I think. I highly recommend it.

Meet the Author

C. Leigh Purtill is the author of two novels, "Love, Meg" and "All About Vee"

Purtill graduated from Mount Holyoke College with degrees in anthropology and dance. She later received her Masters of Science in Film at Boston University. In New York City she became a script supervisor on films, videos and commercials.

In Los Angeles she worked as a broadcast standards editor (network censor) for The WB Television Network, later renamed The CW Television Network on such shows as The Gilmore Girls and 7th Heaven.

Purtill currently resides in West Hollywood with her husband.

    MORE OF A YOUNGR!ER GENERATION BOOK

    I gought this book because I am very obese and took Drama in High School. I thought it would be an intersting read but realized it was more for the 20's and younger age group. I got bored with the story line. I have read the Harry Potter, Twilight, and Hunger Games series and loved those books.
