    Not impressed at all...

    I couldn't wait to get this book home to try out some new recipes. Boy, was I disappointed. I was on the lookout for the BEST brownies around - and this book seemed to offer many options. I tried the original brownies first and I wasn't too impressed at all. They were a tad dry and not sweet or chewy enough. Next, I tried the intense chocolate (don't recall the exact name!)and again I wasn't impressed. I told my husband and son that I was on a search to find the best brownies and we all agreed that the 2 recipes that I tried in this book were not the winners. Love the name though!

    Not happy

    I made these for the firefighter in my life. The whole crew agreed that they were not chocolatey at all. Boxed brownie mixes make better brownies than these. I am tempted to order a brownie and see how an original compares. Very disappointed.

    Easy Recipes with Extra Yummy Results!

    As a novice baker, this book taught me a lot about bar cookies! The recipes are so easy and the results are so, so tasty. But I'm also an impatient baker, so it was tough to wait the recommended hour to wait to taste the goodness. And it's so worth the wait.

    It's also a fun read, the author throughly enjoys her work and it show in her writing. The great introduction on bar baking tips, techniques and supplies helps make the process a simple pleasure. Plus it has a picture of almost every recipes. (My biggest pet peeve about cookbooks is lack of pictures of how it's supposed to look.)

    The collection also includes lots of non-chocolate recipes for those who don't believe chocolate is a gift from the gods. And for those that love, love truly decadent treats, frosting and glaze recipes add the "frosting on the bar!" This book is the "Bible of Bar Cookies". Go ahead, treat yourself to this treat of a cookbook.

    And for those more analytical bakers, here's the numbers:

    Great Gift!

    I purchased this book as a birthday gift for my daughter. She was more than pleased when she received it. She is a big fan of Fat Witch brownies, which made this the perfect cookbook selection for her.

    Buy it for the Congo Bar recipe, if nothing else!

    I love everything I have made out of this cookbook. I made several of the different sorts of bars for my holiday gift giving and have been told by several recipients that the Congo Bars are one of the most tasty things they have ever tasted. I agree wholeheartedly and have made them four times since buying the book a couple of weeks ago. I gave it four stars, instead of five, because I wish the authors would have included times for a 9x13 pan in addition to the 9x9 pan.
