Emily Hunt might come from a family of cops, but she never goes looking for an adrenaline rush. She lives the quiet--well, relatively quiet--life of a teacher and thrives on making a difference in the lives of her students. But she'll have to draw on a well of strength and savvy she didn't know she had as student Rafael Cerda takes her class hostage for ransom money to save his brother's life.

Undercover cop Mason Taylor has been working with Rafael to find his brother and bring the cartel thugs who hold him to justice. Can he talk Rafael down from his impulsive actions? And is there something more sinister at work here than he realizes?

Teacher Emily Hunt finds herself held hostage with her class when a favorite student, Rafael, whose brother has been abducted by drug dealers, enters her classroom wielding a gun. Her only hope is undercover cop Mason Taylor, a friend of her deceased brother. Mason has always been attracted to Emily, but their different faiths have been a stumbling block to a romantic relationship. The hostage situation is finally defused, but then Emily's niece is kidnapped. Rafael is their closest link to the drug cartel, and Emily and Mason need him to tell what he knows before time runs out. VERDICT Harris's follow up to Dangerous Passage is packed with plenty of nail-biting action. Add her signature complex characters, a well-developed Southern setting, and a dash of romance, and you have a compelling, quick read to satisfy the most rabid romantic suspense fan. Harris is a Christy Award finalist and RT Book Reviews winner for Best Inspirational Suspense Novel.
