Overview

Those trained to save lives might be the most skilled at taking them.

Paramedic Anneliese Ashmore's routine shift takes a startling turn when she answers the call she was never meant to hear--a call to a crime scene where her sister, Sydney, is the victim of an overdose suicide.

The evidence says otherwise.

In the midst of a heated divorce, motive implicates Sydney's soon-to-be ex-husband. While the police focus on the single lead, Ana makes her own discovery.

A chain of e-mails between Sydney and her surgeon's office sets Ana on a search for answers about her sister's recent diagnosis and the life-altering treatment that saved her. The body count rises as Ana closes in on the truth and on the man of her dreams.

With the help of Dr. Jared Monroe, an unhappily married physician with a bit of a crush, Ana uncovers a ring of greed and corruption and exposes the fact that Sydney's medical treatment may have been the catalyst for her murder.

Unfortunately for Ana, she may be next.

This is a very intriguing medical mystery and in line with today

This is a very intriguing medical mystery and in line with today’s medical technology.

This is a story involving two sisters, one a wife, Sydney, and one an EMT, Ana. The story starts with Sydney being found dead in a seedy motel. The detective on the scene, Mike, is the sister’s surrogate father. Ana hears the call on her radio and wonders why she wasn’t dispatched to the scene as it has been a slow day. She decides to go anyway.

Ana doesn’t believe Sydney committed suicide and starts her own investigation. The story then becomes one you need to follow closely and keep the characters straight. Jared, a doctor; Colby, his soon to be ex-wife; Ana; Ethan, another EMT; Mike, the detective; Coop, Mike’s partner; Dorian Carmichael, surgeon; his nurse, Noreen; his patient Emily and husband Derrick; Sydney’s husband and his mistress, Misty; and Dr. Marco Prusak. This cast of characters is long but getting who’s who and keep them straight make this a wonderful read.

The story is one of transplant, donors and marriages gone wrong. It started out slow and maybe that was good so you could get up to speed on who’s who. Once the stage was set, it took off and towards the end, I had to stay up to finish the book.

I know this author has written two others; I should get a copy of those and read them as well.
