Overview

Spring has arrived in The Park. The snow is melting, the birds are singing, the wolves are frolicking… and somewhere, in a lonely cabin along the road to Niniltna, a man’s sanity is breaking. Soon, nine people will be dead, seemingly the victims of a random act of violence—until a routine ballistics test reveals that one of the murders was anything but random. Once again the Anchorage DA’s department must turn to their former investigator, Kate Shugak, to uncover a calculating killer, hiding in plain sight.

The second novel in Stabenow's Edgar Award-wining series of Alaskan mysteries, A Fatal Thaw vividly captures life in America's last frontier, filled with unique hardships, quirks and rewards.

Meet the Author

Dana Stabenow
Dana Stabenow was born in Anchorage and raised on 75-foot fish tender in the Gulf of Alaska. She knew there was a warmer, drier job out there somewhere and after having a grand old time working in the Prudhoe Bay oilfields on the North Slope of Alaska, making an obscene amount of money and going to Hawaii a lot, found it in writing.

Her first science fiction novel, Second Star, sank without a trace, her first crime fiction novel, A Cold Day for Murder, won an Edgar award, her first thriller, Blindfold Game, hit the New York Times bestseller list, and her twenty-seventh novel and eighteenth Kate Shugak novel, Though Not Dead, was released in February 2011.

Find her on the web at stabenow.com.

    I'm done!

I'm just not enjoying her books in it's entirety. The suspense is good, but again, I figured out who did it long before it was revealed, too much focus on unimportant details. The only thing you don't know is if she's going to settle down with Jack or not...

    Too short

I like the setting and the charcters. However, this book is only about 150-160 pages. Since page count is not easy to find it is disappointing to finish it in about an hour and a half.

Again, if you like mysteries . . .

Especially those written by women, Dana Stabenow's books are for you. I've read most of them, but missed a few, so when I got my Nook, I ordered the ones I missed. Good stuff!

    Kate Shugak and Mutt rock

Good thing Mutt watches Kate's back as someone is always upset at Kate's determination to solve crimes. One of the best of the Shugak novels.

    I'm hooked on Kate Shugak!

I just finished the 2nd book in the series. I was a little unsure of whether I could really get into this series, but having just finished the second book, I can say I'm hooked. The mysteries are interesting and the descriptions of Alaska add to the feel of the story.
