    I'm done!

I'm just not enjoying her books in it's entirety. The suspense is good, but again, I figured out who did it long before it was revealed, too much focus on unimportant details. The only thing you don't know is if she's going to settle down with Jack or not...

    Too short

I like the setting and the charcters. However, this book is only about 150-160 pages. Since page count is not easy to find it is disappointing to finish it in about an hour and a half.

    Murder+Alaskan Setting+Native Culture

Kate Shugak is an Alaskan native, former FBI agent, and victim of a horrible stabbing who lives alone in the Alaskan wilderness. Her knowledge of all things Alaska gets her pulled back in to investigate crimes with the local police and the FBI. She is involved in a complicated romance with the FBI head agent.
The setting, the culture, the lives of folks living very differently from those who live close to civilization all add to the crime solution.
I have read the first and second books in this series, and I have come to love many of the characters.
I read the first one on an Alaskan cruise. Such fun to read about Alaska as I floated along looking at its amazing scenery.
    Great series!

good story of life in the wilderness of Alaska

Kate is a somewhat reluctant Park Ranger in the woods of Alaska. The story unfolds some of her love life and lots of interesting characters in her hometown and region. Her grandmother is always trying to get her to retain the "old ways" and not let any modern things into her life. She meets certain unsavory characters she has to deal with as well state and federal agents.

Again, if you like mysteries . . .

Especially those written by women, Dana Stabenow's books are for you. I've read most of them, but missed a few, so when I got my Nook, I ordered the ones I missed. Good stuff!

    Kate Shugak and Mutt rock

Good thing Mutt watches Kate's back as someone is always upset at Kate's determination to solve crimes. One of the best of the Shugak novels.

    I'm hooked on Kate Shugak!

I just finished the 2nd book in the series. I was a little unsure of whether I could really get into this series, but having just finished the second book, I can say I'm hooked. The mysteries are interesting and the descriptions of Alaska add to the feel of the story.
