Publishers Weekly
Steeped in Native American mythology, the first book in the Soul Seekers series from Noël (the Immortals series) is an atmospheric and enjoyable though typical supernatural read. Sixteen-year-old Daire has spent her life traveling the world with her mother, a movie makeup artist. When increasingly frequent visions of silent watchers and spooky crows cause a very public freakout, Daire is headed for institutionalization until her long-missing paternal grandmother resurfaces and takes her in. Settled in Enchantment, N. Mex., Daire learns she is a Seeker, part of an ancestral line of shamans. But even as Daire seeks her spirit animal and sets off on a vision quest, she has her first taste of high school, gets to know the boy she’s been seeing in her dreams, and must save the world from an undead army. Though weakened by genre clichés and offscreen character development, Noël’s story is nicely paced and well-written. The foreshadowing and loose ends that set up future books aren’t subtle, but Noël’s many fans will be eager to find out what happens next. Ages 12–up. A fast and enjoyable read...with some very unique plot twists and balance among the romance, conflict and family relationships.
The Reading Date

Fated reads very well and the descriptions set the scene perfectly. Noel takes the time to set the story up right so it never feels rushed or that any details were missing. …I'm glad there's not too long to wait for the sequel - Echo is due out in November of this year.
Cover Analysis

Noël has surpassed all of my exceptions with a new world filled with magick, trust, and love. . . . It just mesmerizes me how [she] can create a world filled with fast-pacing, heart-breaking plots along with awesome characters and such a magical world.

I loved this book. All the characters were beautifully developed including some of the minor characters. . . I for one had high expectations of this book because of Evermore and Fated defiantly met those standards.
Kindle & Me

The world-building in Fated is fantastic. …The plot is amazing and the rich Native American history along with the supernatural elements of the book, just made it even better...Fated is a story of pure magic--breathtaking and wonderful, all at once.
Tales of the Inner Book Fanatic

Fated was absolutely original in its own way! From the vivid descriptions to the spiritual world the author, Alyson Noël, has cleverly created, I was so intrigued and stunned by this book that I can't wait to see where Noël takes this series to because she sure as hell has a winner right here!
Thirteen Days Later

This novel is something different than anything I've encountered. Fated has a rich mythology, full of spirit animals, spirit journeys, fate, soul-seeking, and of course, good and evil.
New Mexico Style

Alyson Noël paints a magical New Mexican landscape.
LA Times

Noël does a terrific job of slowly unspooling secrets and motivations with writing that is both charismatic and spunky.

If you're looking for a new series to get stuck into "The Soul Seekers" is out of this world.
Alternative Worlds

A superb thriller. The key to this absorbing tale is the heroine who makes the Noël mythos seem genuine as she enters the underworld while wondering who she can trust. Filled with twists, this is a winning opening act.
Once Upon A Twilight

This book has it all--magick, spookiness, cute boys, a little romance, danger, fun and light-hearted moments, some mystery, and there's even good/evil twins (cute ones, too!) What more can you ask for? I am very intrigued by this new world that Alyson has created, and I cannot wait to read more about Daire and her friends in the future.
Maximum Shelf Shelf Awareness

Readers will feel the pull of Daire's quest just as forcefully as Daire herself does, and will count the days until the release of Echo.
The Story Siren

Another captivating series from Alyson Noël. Fated did an excellent job setting up everything for the next books in the series. …I'm really looking forward to seeing where this series goes!

A rush of romance will sweep you away in this hauntingly mystical read. I'm already as addicted to Daire and Dace as I was to Ever and Damen. Next book please!

Two boys, one light and one dark, factor heavily into the intriguing, twisting story line, which is sure to draw Noël's numerous fans.

I found myself unable to put this book down, completely captivated by the narration and the beautifully crafted world. It was a refreshing YA fantasy with new elements I've never before.
School Library Journal
Gr 8 Up—Noël gives paranormal romance an innovative twist in this first book of a trilogy. Sixteen-year-old Daire is plagued with delusions. In a last ditch effort to keep her from being institutionalized, her mother sends her daughter to stay with the mysterious grandmother she has never met. Paloma is a healer in the small town of Enchantment, NM. She assures Daire that what she sees are not delusions, but visions that mark her as the latest in a long line of Seekers. Daire learns from Paloma that as a Seeker her job is to move back and forth from this world to the spirit world, helping souls who have been misled. Her grandmother trains her to hone her talents so she will be ready to fight the forces of evil that plan to steal every soul in town on the Day of the Dead. Noël keeps the plot moving along at a rapid clip, throwing in several spirit portals, potions, and visions. To keep the magical elements believable, she grounds the story in reality: high school shenanigans, small-town politics, and family conflicts. A recurring source of tension is whether or not Daire should allow herself to be attracted to handsome, kindly Dace, even though his twin brother, Cade, is evil incarnate. Daire is a compelling, believable character. Like most teens, she is conflicted about her future and romance. Other characters are more one-dimensional. Still, the story is so packed with action, suspense, and tender romance that character development probably will not be missed.—Jennifer Prince, Buncombe County Public Library, NC

Here’s a glimpse of Fated, book one of The Soul Seekers!

The boy calls after me as I shove through crowds of people my age. Knocking into girls and bouncing off boys, until one in particular catches me, steadies me. His fingers circling my arm as he peers down and says, “You okay?”

I struggle against him, fight to break free. Though it’s not long before I’m overcome by a cool wash of calm chased by a comforting warmth that folds like a blanket around me. My movements slowed, my thoughts becoming so hazy and loose, I abandon my flight. Robbed of all recollection of why I wanted to leave when I’d do anything to always feel so secure—so safe—so loved and at peace.

So at home in his arms.

I melt against his chest—lift my gaze to meet his. Gasping when I stare into a pair of icy-blue eyes banded by brilliant flecks of gold that shine like kaleidoscopes, reflecting my image thousands of times.

The boy from my dream.

The one who died in my arms.
