Overview

[BookStrand Fantasy Romance, dragons, HEA] In the aftermath of a senseless war that claimed many lives, the gods have punished the dragons for causing the conflict. The next generation will not hatch until Prince Shurik finds a human female willing to put aside generations of animosity to become his bride. Yolette goes to sleep on the side of a mountain, the odd woman out on a couples' camping trip, and awakes in a field outside the home of a dragon. Transported to an unknown world very different from her own, she must depend on Shurik for shelter and guidance. Shurik doesn't anticipate his growing feelings for Yolette, making the task of proposing that much harder. Danger looms from those who want the punishment ended and from those who want it to continue until the last dragon is gone. Shurik must decide whether he will save his people or his love and pray to the gods his choice is the right one. I received this book from Reading Alley in return for a fair and honest review. This is a slow-paced fantasy book with a hint of romance. I think the romance is supposed to take the front seat but it just didn't work for me, not with these two. This is the tale of a woman from Earth (Yolette) who wakes up in another world with only a dragon (Shurik) to keep her company. Shurik is the dragon set the task by the Father God to marry a willing human to break a curse. The problem is that the humans and dragons on his world have been at war for eons. So along comes Yolette and with her 'new' way of looking at things is able to make some sort of peace between the two.  You don't actually find out why the dragons have been cursed until you're about two-thirds of the way through the book. If you are expecting action, either between the sheets or out of it, or rip-roaring battles then you need to find another book. This is more a gentle stroll in the woods with a friend. I can't really say more than this because not a lot more actually happened. Just in case you're wondering and yes, this is sort of a spoiler, the dragon and the human were actually able to mate but I'll leave it to you to find out how. I wish I could rave about how excellent this was but I can't. It was good, I enjoyed it. If you want a gentle story of the dragon kind with a twist (ie, he isn't a shapeshifter but a real dragon) then you may want to try this one.
