Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
"I was a drug addict," admits Favre on the opening page of his autobiography, whose first two chapters are devoted to his addiction to painkillers and his rehabilitation. The son of secondary-school teachers in the town of Kiln, Miss., he grew up next to a bayou populated by alligators and snakes. After excelling in football at the University of Southern Mississippi, he was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons and spent a year on the bench. Then in 1992 he was traded to Green Bay, where he made his mark as one of the best quarterbacks in history, was named the NFL's most valuable player in 1995 and 1996 and led the team to victory in Super Bowl XXXI. Green Bay Press-Gazette sports columnist Havel has helped Favre to present himself here as a fun-loving, small-town guy who tells usin the same paragraphthat he was "kinda old" to believe in Santa in sixth grade, it's "kind of funny" he didn't want to give up that belief and it "kind of" spoiled Christmas for him when he did. Favre comes across as a loyal individual, but aside from the gridiron victories, readers won't find much excitement here other than the alligators and snakes next door. (Oct.)

    Brett Favre For The Record
For my reading project I read the book, Brett Favre For The Record. It was written by Brett Favre himself since it is a biography, with the help of Chris Havel. In the book, Brett Favre explains a few major events in his life. Such as; his addiction to Vicodin, Super Bowl XXXI, his childhood, high school football, college football, and his career with the Green Bay Packers.
I thought it was a very great book about Brett Favre. I grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin so he was always on TV Sunday afternoon playing for the Packers. My whole family was Packer fans growing up, so I thought why not read a book about him to finish up my school year. It was a good choice, I liked how he talked about the Super Bowl, and having an amazing friendship with his teammates. I also liked the fact that besides I wanted to learn about his career as a Packer, other things in his life. Such as, life off the field, practicing and watching film. He talked about marriage to his amazing wife Deanna too, which was his main support through his life becoming a professional quarter back.
There were a few things in the book I didn’t like so much either. There was defiantly more that I did like than I didn’t though. At first I wasn’t so sure if I was going to like the book as much as when I picked it out. I thought it was going to be all about his career with the Green Bay Packers, not about his childhood and growing up. He started the book off with his addiction to Vicodin when he played for the Packers. The whole first two chapters consisted of this, and I didn’t find it as interesting as his career. But I guess it was a big part of his life, that Deanna helped him get threw.
Overall I really did like the book and would give it a four out of five star review. I learned a lot of things about Brett Favre that I didn’t know before I read the book. I just knew what most people know about him; he was the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers, was well known in Green Bay, and of course never wanted to retire. One thing that really got me was growing up he actually played safety in high school and started as safety during college ball. I don’t know how someone can go from playing safety so long to becoming a quarterback. They are almost complete opposites! If I could have to choose to have read this book or not have I defiantly would.
I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone. Even if you don’t’ enjoy football I think you would still enjoy this book, because it tells a great story and isn’t about just football. It shows you that someone everyone looks up to growing up isn’t perfect either, so one is. If you like football it will make this book even greater, and if you like the Packers and Brett Favre it will make it amazing. It isn’t to long of a book and could be read by most age groups. I would say high school or older, just because it talks about his drug addiction to Vicodin. If you have not read this book yet you should defiantly buy it and read it as soon as possible. You can always get it at your local library too, so what are you waiting for go get it!

From the bottom to the top

This was a book with a lot a facts that told the story of to be hall of famer first ballet. In the book it shows the hardships in which Brett had to go through to get to where he is today. This is definitely a must read book for any Green bay Packer fan. This book had every thing you need to know wins, loses, how cold it was when he won and lost. This book also covered how Brett felt the night he played after his father had passed away. In this book it makes you realize the hardships you have to go through to be an NFL quarterback. When the book got to talking about Super bowl 31 I just couldn¿t put the book down. It was amazing to see where he is now and how little he was recruited out of high school. The book also comes with an excellent DVD for people that don¿t like to read. This was one of the best autobiographies I have ever read.

If your a fan of my books then you know that I'm a true Iowa Hawkeye and diehard Packer fan. I am not a person who is known to be one of a lack of words, this book left me speachless. I have met Brett, he is a true NFL hero and a leader for every man, woman, and child to look up to. Even if your a stinkin' Vikings fan, you'll love this book! (Just kidding, a little payback for that Moss in-zone thing)
