Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Margaret C. F. Pollock
Fawn and her best friend Beck are sparkly little fairies living in the Home Tree in Never Land. This, of course, is the same place inhabited by Peter Pan, where children never grow up and magic remains. Tinker Bell, Peter's famous friend, makes brief appearances throughout this story. Fawn and Beck love playing spooky pranks on each other, and they like the frisson of "safe" fear from a prank well played. So the two friends take turns playing scary-funny pranks on each other, until a couple pranks occur for which neither fairy claims responsibility. Both are scared by the possibility of a truly frightening "mysterious trickster" and take to sleeping together in the same room for courage. The mystery is thus solved, as it turns out that Fawn performed the unsolved pranks in her sleep. This is one of the "Disney Fairy" series of similar books. Famously attractive Disney-style illustrations, complete with sparkly fairy dust embedded in the cover, will prove irresistible to many little girls. The publisher calls this "A Stepping Stone Book" suggesting an intention for this book to help young readers move from picture books to text-only reading. Thus, a dozen full-page illustrations and many smaller ones serve as curtain-openers for the text. The large print, short chapters and tight literary elements make this an accessible chapter book for young readers. In addition to a fun fairy story, this book may help readers grapple with the monster under the bed or in the closet, as all of the scary pranks turn out to have safe, factual causes. A must have for your Fairy Collection.

    I just bought this book for my daughter and we both enjoyed it very much. Fawn and Beck are wonderful and I loved the illustrations. This is a must have for any 'Fairy' collection.

    @lisa

    I like it. But one thing. I cheked the book out at the library, and that book says that it was the furniture in Bess' room that got turned upside down. But other that that this book rules. My daughter loved it.

    Im @lisa. Look for more reviews from me.

    My 6yo daughter likes it

    Not my cup of tea, not very well written or creative or thoughtful. But my 6-year old daughter likes it. And it's good enough that I bought one other book in the Disney Fairies series so that she would have a chapter book she likes.
