Overview

Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.

They're talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison of unlocked doors. Wouldn't it be great to walk out?

Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, or doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, where you could trust more and fear less.

Can you imagine your life without fear?

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Finding things to worry about is easier than gathering flowers. Lifting those fears requires steadiness of mind and clarity of spirit. Max Lucado's Fearless challenges readers to respond to threats in our unstable world with faith, not fear. His hopeful message will find a receptive audience among Bible-based Christians.
Publishers Weekly
Lucado, called by some “America's pastor,” offers his faithful base a timely primer on living fearlessly. The author, whose sales exceed 65 million books, provides those within the Christian faith (and without) an inspirational can-do appropriate for the turbulent times Americans are facing. Citing key common fears—violence, overwhelming challenges, sickness and other worst-case scenarios—Lucado offers welcome wisdom about those solely internal battles individuals face daily. People are afraid their lives don't matter; they're afraid of disappointing God; they're afraid of an afterlife; and they're even afraid God is not real, Lucado says. Skillful as a surgeon, he discerns and identifies the cancer of fear that touches every human being, and with like precision speaks healing words that cut right the heart. While there exists no fast fix or simple cure for the fear-bound individual, Lucado's tempered counsel and faith-driven remedies will offer day-by-day spiritual medicine of the most potent kind. (Sept.)
Library Journal
Prolific Christian inspirational writer Lucado (Give It All to Him) offers advice on replacing fear with faith. In each chapter, he addresses a common fear, relates it to an incident from the life and teachings of Jesus, and illustrates it with a story or personal anecdote (many of which are well worn or parochial). Fears discussed include disappointing God, failure to protect children, violence, financial troubles, death, and global calamity. Overall, Lucado's advice is positive: stay calm, be courageous, don't be defined by fear, learn from others, focus on the present. Like his previous works, this has its origins in sermons preached at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, TX. VERDICT This book will appeal to Lucada's fans and Christian readers looking for encouragement and inspiration in hard times.—Lucille M. Boone, San Jose P.L., CA

    Absolutely Life Changing!

In a day and age where everything is in fluxe, this book actually helped me realize that I have to let go and let things happen. I am a very poor sleeper meaning that I toss and turn worrying and thinking about things. The first night after I started this book I had the best night's sleep I have had in a long time. I realize while I can't control things that happen to me, I can control the way I react. I have slowly learned to take that leap into faith and let God take me on my path. I recommend this book to anyone who lives in fear and wants to live in faith!

Book Review of Max Lucado's "Fearless"

From the author Max Lucado is his new book "Fearless", which is an amazing book and one that is so timely and needed right now. This book talks about fears that everyone has in life and this existence and how to deal with those fears by giving them to God and trusting God. The book is filled with biblical stories and references to highlight fear and why we should not fear. The message of the book is that people who follow God should fear not. "Though the world may collapse, the work of Christ will endure", seems to be the main message overall to all people, Christians or not. The book also offers encouragement that you shouldn't be afraid, you shouldn't worry; you shouldn't fret because it is all in God's hand and part of his divine plan. This was a great book that I thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning from. I would recommend it to all my friends, family and Christians and non-Christians alike. After reading this book, I think I want to read more of Max Lucado's writing. He puts stories together very nicely and has a way of always expressing God's word to intertwine with the story. The author and the book made me stop and think, question my thoughts, my fears and my relationship with God. Max successfully conveyed Biblical truths in his book and the information was clear and easy to understand. The book was able to hold my attention and I didn't want to stop reading it once I became engaged with it. I am a book review blogger for Thomas Nelson Publishers. Read Fearless and Fear Less!

Fearless by Max Lucado is a timeless book that is quite timely. These days, so many of us have so many fears. Many fear the impact of the economy on our current livelihood and our future retirement. Some fear something horrible happening to our children, and others even fear "fear" itself. Fearless addresses our most common fears in understandable and practical terms, and backs it up with innumerable Biblical promises.

Through real-life everyday stories, the brilliant story-teller, Max Lucado, inspires us to apply this simple but significant idea: put all your cares on Christ because Christ cares for you. In his laid-back but in-your-face style, Lucado reminds us that the only healthy fear is our reverent fear of the one and only true God. Once we recognize His significance, our fears become insignificant. The message is unmistakable: our great God wants us to live a life without fear, and He paved the way for us to defeat our fears when Jesus defeated death on the cross. Trust and obey Him, and you can live a full life without fear. Read Fearless by Max Lucado, and fear less.

    Great Book on Fear

Wow! Amazing! Superb! Those were words going through my mind as I read Fearless. Max Lucado's book Fearless tackles the topic of understanding how to handle fear in a Christian life the way his book He Chose the Nails tackled the topic of understanding how God's love is unconditional for a Christian. This was the first Lucado book I've read since He Chose the Nails, and like that book, I will be buying extra copies to give to people for their edification.

In Fearless, Lucado has a great balance of humor and poignancy that help the reader through the book. A few of my favorite Points-to-Ponder (PTP) from the book are as follows:

PTP#1: "Fear, at its center, is a perceived loss of control. When life spins wildly, we grab for a component of life we can manage...The more insecure we feel, the meaner we become" (p. 9).

PTP#2: "Jesus faced his ultimate fear with honest prayer" (p. 83).

This is so true in our life. When we lose control of events and life begins to become chaotic and in disarray, immediately we turn to fear when we should be turning to God for direction and peace. We much too often forget that going to God in prayer over a situation has greater results than when we try to handle the problems causing our fear.

I would highly recommend Fearless to anyone struggling with thoughts of fear. The time I spent in the book has been enriching, and there are many PTP that I will take with me for further meditation. This book came to me at the right time in my life. Thank you Max Lucado!

Explores the concept of fear and faith

I enjoyed reading the book Fearless by Max Lucado who was born in San Angelo, Texas, a family man. Max is one of Christianity's most popular authors. Over 33 million copies of his books have been sold.

This book explores the concept of fear and faith. It is an inspirational challenge for us to imagine our life without fear. It asks the question, "Would it create a very different life?" It also explores the question which may arise in our hearts and minds, "Are we living the life we want, or is fear holding us back?"

I like the way the author uses descriptive words which help form a picture in my mind of what he is expressing in the form of wee stories. There is a sense of humor in the author's writing which I think is great. It certainly makes the topic of fear take on a light hearted approach.

The book has several bibical refrences to scripture, and the author explains well how Scripture can relate to everyday life. This book contains a lot of examples of the difference between fear and faith and explains this. I do think it would have been an idea to have more practical suggestions or steps in overcoming fear in the book. However I would encourage anyone to take part in the discussion guide at the end for those wanting to have a deeper understanding of the subject of faith and fear.

My favorite quote in this book is:

"When everything else changes, God's presence never does. You journey in the company of the Holy Spirit, who 'will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you (John 14:26)'.

So make friends with whatever's next.
Embrace it. Accept it. Don't resist it.
    Change is not only a part of life;
Change is a necessary part of God's strategy."

To me the book demonstrates that through Jesus Christ we can overcome anything. No matter how big or how small our fears may be, we don't have to be ruled by fear.

    Simply Amazing

I read this book through the ebook review program. I was on the fence about this book because the pride in me said, "well you're already fearless". As I went through this book it challenged me in several areas. Shortly after reading it, my church small group went through it and WOW I found this book simply amazing. Yes I still feel fearless in many areas but through this study I found where I needed to increase my faith and trust God's plan for me. Thank you Max Lucado for presenting a book that gently digs deep in the topic of fear and courage.

The message is clear: have faith and lose your fears. Max Lucado references biblical scriptures in which Jesus tells his disciples "do not be afraid" and to "have courage". Jesus doesn't want us to be fearful of the world. Instead he wants us to face it with courage and find strength in him to do so. This book is a must read and a gift I recommend giving to everyone you know.

    Buy it!

Once again, Max takes biblical teachings and ties them to everyday life in a way that you can understand. I read this book in two days and found it to be inspiring and reassuring. He reminds us of God's promises and shows us over and over again how many times God's assurance appears in the bible. The book covers different fears in separate chapters. While not every one of the chapters applied to me, I found great comfort in the one regarding raising children. There are also chapters on money, feeling alone, disappointing God and so forth. I enjoyed this book so much I gave it to my mother for Mother's Day. There are also companion books as well if you enjoyed this one. Bottom line is quite wasting so much of your life being afraid and spend more time trusting God.

    Great book!

A great book and a quick read, Max Lucado succinctly sums up the common denominators of all fears and helps to resolve them. Firmly relying on scripture and personal experience, the book has some genuinely moving moments. While the writing feels more like a coffee table book than an informative one, you will finish this book feeling lighter, enlightened, and ready to be fearless.

    THOUGHT-PROVOKING for sure!

Some of us more than others live in fear of everything and anything all the time, but we don't understand WHY!! As has already been said this book is instrumental in helping to guide us out of this uncomfortable place. Bravo Lucado! You've done it again! Another book I'd like to recommend to pull you out and put you in the right frame of mind is EXPLOSION IN PARIS, by LINDA MASEMORE PIRRUNG....It's listed as romantic suspense but it's so much more than that! It left me feeling joyous and so much better off for having read it! I'm hopeful for a sequel! Check out the reviews! They hooked me big time!

Since 9/11 Fear Has Been A Common Thread In All Our Lives. Lucado Helped Ease That Fear!

This book is amazing. IT taps into our hidden fears and provides a concrete way to move past them. I'd also recommend that you buy "When God Stopped Keeping Score" here on BN, which takes an intimate look at the power of God in forgiveness. It is a must read.

Ready to live Fearless - this book will help!

Fearless is a very informative and inspirational book. The basis of the book is that in these uncertain times, many people are allowing fear instead of faith to lead them in their daily lives. This can be emotionally draining and not productive.

Fearless, by Max Lucado is a great book that analyzes how people aren't enjoying life to the fullest because fear is at the forefront of their minds at all times. This is a great book to purchase if you or someone you know are going through this. Without giving away too much of the book, Max discusses why we are afraid, and breaks down each chapter with a discussion and Biblical references to back the chapter.

I think this would be a great book club read for a group to hold discussion on this topic. Fear is a normal emotion for humans, but a lot of times it's not talked about in the open. If you're tired of worry and fear consuming your daily life, this book is a good place to start to move beyond it and to begin to fill your life with faith.

    Good book on fear!

Fear. We have all had it at one time or another. Will I have enough money to pay the bills this month? Even still, some say fear is healthy, while others say it's bad. One thing is for sure, it's not hard to find. Turn on any TV, pick up any newspaper, or better yet, check your computer 's homepage and there it is. The economy. The war in Iraq. The possibility of terrorism here in the United States. Or, Is my job in jeopardy? Are my kids safe at school. The list goes on and on. All these worries can plague a person's spirit and mind if they are not careful.
Max Lucado's new book, "Fearless, Imagine Your Life Without Fear," takes a look at the concerns we have all dealt with. After reading this book, you find an alternative view of the above topics that will allow you to live by faith and have a more positive outlook on life.

    A call to live fear-free and Faith-full

Are you a control freak? Do you like to plan every decision in your life down to the littlest detail before you can commit to a decision? If so, then this is the book for you.

Fearless is a poignant, witty, accessible read with plenty of practical applications of scripture to our daily lives. It's just what readers have come to expect from Lucado.

Facing the unknown is one of the hardest things for most people to do, yet it's something we deal with pretty much every day. We get in our cars and drive every day without fear, right? Well, most of us do, without a thought to the fact that today could be today we get in a life ending accident. We don't know -- only God does. Yes, there are plenty of scary things in life. The trick is believing that God has his hand of protection over us. Though it may feel like we're jumping out without a safety net, he's there.

When Peter walked out onto the water, was he one hundred percent sure he wouldn't sink. I don't think so. God is calling us to trust that he can support our feet, even on the most unstable of ground. He's calling us to live fear free and faith full. Though it may not change your life, Fearless is an encouragement and a good reminder that we aren't doing life alone.

    Fearless by Max Lucado

Max Lucado's book Fearless examines different types of fear which we all face, and tells us how to deal with them through many Biblical references.

Before starting this book I was not expecting much as it is in the 'Spiritual Growth & Christian Thought' category in booksneeze.com, from where I got the book. But I was pleasantly surprised. Fearless is a wonderful book! A book that inspires you to put faith before fear.

The book has a total of 14 chapters, all dealing with a different type of fear. I found the first few chapters the best. All of them were good except the 14th one, which I thought was not required and does not add any value to this book.

Max Lucado's writing style is also quite impressive. This is a Christian book. But not being a Christian, or even being an atheist, didn't make a difference as Lucado is not very intense in his preaching. Fearless is definitely a must read book.

Disclosure: I received this book free from Thomas Nelson Publishers as part of their BookSneeze.com book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

Another fabulous book from Max Lucado

On my most recent round of book review choices, I chose to review Fearless, by Max Lucado, for the simple reason that I have always loved reading books by Max Lucado. I have a small home library and almost an entire shelf is taken up by his wonderful books. That all being said, it's been a while since I picked up any of his writing, so I was excited to have this opportunity. Honestly, I don't consider myself to be a fearful person (except when we're talking about something like talking to people I don't know), so I didn't really think this book would apply to me too much.

Famous last words, right? I think I was on page 2 before I knew this book was talking to me. And that feeling continued for the entire book. For many of us, stress and anxiety has just become a normal part life. We're constantly bombarded with information on the internet and on the TV, and much of it is stressful.

Fearless addresses so many areas of fear in our life (disappointing God, childrearing, illness, violence, finances, not being good enough, and many more) and constantly refocuses us on the One who has everything under control. This book is written in Max Lucado's typical easy-to-read style-but-still-so-profound style. I think it would be an encouragement to anyone, since we're all facing fear in some way or another. Whether you realize it or not!

At the end of the book there's a nice study guide to help really get into the topics of the book and the scriptures that it presents, as well as suggestions for how to apply the lessons to life.

To wrap up this review, I'll close with a quote from the book that I'm going to print out and stick to as many surfaces in my home as I can find so that I can always see it and remember.

"Real courage embraces the twin realities of current difficulty and ultimate triumph. Yes, life stinks. But it won't forever. As one of my friends likes to say, 'Everything will work out in the end. If it's not working out, it's not the end.'"

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book as part of the Booksneeze review program. I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions posted here are mine and mine alone.

Elegant Blend Of Faith and Fear by Mr. Lucado

As my first entry into the world of Max Lucado's writing style, Fearless was well executed with a smooth conversational tone. Mr. Lucado's ability to navigate an often avoided world of fear in our lives with grace and elegance was quite apparent.

With a knack for blending the worlds of day to day life easily with scripture to give those of faith a solid foundation to move forward on is refreshing. I have to tell you, for me, the book was enlightening in a different way. Chapter after chapter of untold fears. Whether it is ignorant bliss or just lack of experience, many of the fears Mr. Lucado discusses were somewhat foreign to me. Topics such as fear of not mattering, fear of disappointing God, fear of not protecting kids, fear of violence, fear of god is not real, are just a few of the examples that hit me like a ton of bricks. To be honest with you, the awareness of some of these fears actually had me contemplating them in my own life as I read the chapters. Being acutely aware of what others are dealing with is a powerful testimony and the ability to assist others through times of fear and utilize ones faith as the focal point of creating a lessening fear is a tool that everyone will take away from Fearless.

Mr. Lucado's clear knowledge of the scriptures must be pointed out. For those with strong faith or for those who turn toward their faith in these fearful times, the study guide at the back of Fearless allows for much needed insight as well as a direct link to the Bibles scriptures that reinforce Mr. Lucado's message.

    Fearless by max Lucado

What do you FEAR most? Have you identified your FEAR? Can you imagine living just a short time without that FEAR? What would that freedom feel like? I just finished another of Thomas Nelson's books, FEARLESS, by Max Lucado. Fear to me, if unidentified, is like a thief that robs us of all the opportunities of living the victorious life that Christ would desire for us. We all have, or have had fear, and that fear will "always be at our door." Whether we want to admit it or not, as we observe and interact with individuals and their responses to situations, their fear(s) will soon surface. Lucado defines fear as "an emotional response to a threat that causes us to escape or avoid the threat." He goes on to say that "if fear is not dealt with, it can lead to a worse situation or unacceptable behaviors."
Over the years, I have seen how hard it is to react out of my faith rather than my fears. But this can be done. I haven't gotten it all perfected, but Lucado has certainly challenged me to continue my journey, combating fear by trusting God rather than myself. One way I try to keep myself in check is to ask/remind myself daily of the question, "Do I respond more out of fear of failure, rejection, calamity, or out of the power of the risen Christ in me?" God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control (2 Timothy 1: 7). WOW! Can you imagine your life without fear? Make sure you get a copy of Lucado's book Fearless. It is truly life changing. It is truly a tool to show you a life of freedom - free of our fears. Read it yourself, then share your copy with a friend.

    I Also Recommend:

I Wanted To Not Like This Book

I can honestly say, I didn't want to like this book. I had read my fair share of self help books, but only one had helped me in any way and that was "When God Stopped Keeping Score" which truly taught me the power of forgiveness. Then I was given this book, and I learned to truly let go. No more worrying. No more stressing. Just let go. I can finally say I am living a worry free life, with few if any regrets.

For anyone who feels bound by their anger, guilt, hurt or pain, I also recommend "When God Stopped Keeping Score." I thought that the book was just about forgiveness, I soon learned, it was about so much more than that. I was about how you should deal with friends, family and yourself and more importantly, how to keep these relationships strong when things go wrong.

Having read it, I feel like a better person. Maybe because this book spoke to me and not down to me. I have read a lot of books that was written like I didn't know anything. What the author of "When God Stopped Keeping Score" does is talk to you like a friend. I needed that. You will understand why when you read it.
