Overview

Taylor Swift abandons any pretense that she's a teen on her second album, Fearless -- which isn't to say that she suddenly tarts herself up, running away from her youth in a manner that's all too familiar to many teen stars. Swift's maturation is deliberate and careful, styled after the crossover country-pop of Shania Twain and Faith Hill before they turned into divas. Despite the success of her self-titled 2006 debut, there's nothing at all diva-like about Swift on 2008's Fearless: she's soft-spoken and considerate, a big sister instead of a big star. Nowhere is this truer than on "Fifteen," a kind warning for a teen to watch her heart sung from the perspective of a woman who's perhaps twice that age -- a sly trick for the 18-year-old Swift. There may be a hint of youthfulness to her singing but that's the only hint of girlishness here; her writing -- and she had a hand in penning all 13 tracks here, with six of them bearing her solitary credit -- is sharply, subtly crafted and the music is softly assured, never pushing its hooks too hard and settling into a warm bed of guitars and keyboards. Like many country-pop albums of the 2000s, the pop heavily outweighs the country -- there aren't fiddles here, there are violins -- yet Fearless never feels garish, a crass attempt at a crossover success. It's small-scale and sweetly tuneful, always seeming humble even when the power ballads build to a big close. Swift's gentle touch is as enduring as her songcraft, and this musical maturity may not quite jibe with her age but it does help make Fearless one of the best mainstream pop albums of 2008.

Editorial Reviews

Entertainment Weekly - Leah Greenblatt
Her supple, lightly twangy vocals fit the album's lilting melodies (most of the slick, radio-friendly instrumentation here is purely functional), and her sentiments, though sometimes naive, are refreshingly age-appropriate. [B]

Wow. I've been waiting for this for a long time and I have to say I am more than happy. She write 8 of the songs herself, and cowrote the rest! Pure Talent!!! The Best Day and The Way I Loved You may be two of my all time favorite songs. Hey Stephen is addicting. Fearless makes you want to dance in the rain. Great job, Tay. Can't Wait for the third album from one of the most charming, inspiring, and positive role models out there!

Taylor Swift is byfar my favorite country singer and my idol. She's a great role model for everyone. She's a phenomeonal singer and I can relate to all of her songs. One thing I like about Taylor is she's true to herself and doesn't crack under pressure. I love her voice! I like how she writes most of her songs. I could go on and on and on! Rock on, Taylor, and keep doing what you do!! P.S. I recommend this to ANYONE!!!

Taylor Swift's music does not have the f word nor the n word. That couldn't be farther from the truth. She is talented when it comes to writing lyrics that are relatable to every girl out there. By the use of incorrect grammar it is safe to assume whomever Thy wicked Juggalo is, that wrote the previous comment must be a twelve year old. A twelve year old who has never even listened to a song by Taylor Swift. If you are going to leave ratings atleast check you facts!

For the person who wrote the first review, what are you talking about. Taylor Swift is a great example and an inspiration to all girls out there. Do you honestly expect people to believe that she curses, are you that dumb, you dont have to like her but dont make up lies so stupid that no one will believe you anyway

I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYBODY SAYS BECAUSE I KNOW SHE IS THE BEST SINGER EVER! SHE IS SUCH AN INSPIRATION TO MANY PEOPLE AND A LOT OF PEOPLE LOOK UP TO HER. SHE IS THE PERFECT ROLE MODEL. ALSO SHE CAN SING VERY-WELL AND IM AMAZING AT HOW SHE WRITE/CO-WRITES ALL OF HER SONGS WHEN I HEAR ON THE RADIO IT JUST BLOWS MY MIND AT HOW AMAZING SHE IS. IF YOU DON'T LIKE HER THEN THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH YOU. THIS ISN'T JUST A OPINION ITS A FACT. AND IM GOING TO SEE HER IN CONCERT IN THE SUMMER!! YAY!!! I LOVE YOU TAYLOR SWIFT!!!!!!

Relatable songs written by a real girl, Taylor Swift. Captures the time in a 15 year old girls life, through songs such as "Fifteen," where a girl describes her first day of high school; "Change," the time when girls rebel against injustice and pain; "White Horse," when a boy disappoints, and more! :)

Fearless is a great cd, and would recommend to anyone. Favorite songs from this album are: Love Story; White Horse; and Breathe.

Fearless by Taylor Swift contains a strong mix of country music songs that showcase her musical spirit and soul. Songs such as You Belong With Me, Love Story, and Breathe (feat. Colbie Caillat) display an open musical heart very trusting of what life has to offer.

taylor swift is an amazing person and i don't know how anyone out there can not be a fan of hers. she is a great role model for all her fans and the younger generation of children out there. she actually has talent which half of the artists on the radio lack completely, but people are still fans of them. she nows how to capture an audience and even writes her own songs. she has talent and people look for anything/everything to hold against her, but the thing is, all she's done to anyone is just sing her heart out and be the incredible person that she was destined to be.
