School Library Journal - School Library Journal
K-Gr 4-The Las Flores caf , in south Florida, is a local gathering spot with a special feature Feathers, the parrot. Feathers can only repeat what he hears, and this gets him into trouble when he starts a tale that grows as more and more people repeat and embellish it, all with Feather's unthinking assistance. A male narrator tells Linda Talley's story (MarshMedia, 2001) about the dangers of gossip. Background music, with a light Caribbean beat, accompanies the iconographic scanning of Andra Chase's vibrant illustrations. The teacher's guide includes extension activities. The video ends with a short song about not believing everything you hear, and avoiding rumors. The message is clear and easy to understand choose your words with care. Sure, this may be a bit didactic, but the message is valuable. This video would be an excellent addition to units on character education.-Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary School, Federal Way, WA Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
