Overview

When Dave Grusin and Larry Rosen, as GRP Records, took control of the Chess label catalog, they had access to a treasure trove of the very finest electric blues artists of the '50s at their disposal. This 14-track collection defines that genre, with many recognizable hits from these bluesmen and their bands. You get two tracks apiece from seven artists, with Muddy Waters doing "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" and "I've Got My Mojo Working," B.B. King's "The Thrill Is Gone" and "I Want Yo So Bad," and Howlin' Wolf's "Tell Me What I've Done" and "300 Pounds of Joy" all the definitive cream of the crop. Also a stone-cold classic is T-Bone Walker's "Stormy Monday," but really, even the minor hits are classics in terms of originality and unadulterated blues power. If you want to show a newcomer the path to enlightenment, this would be a great place to start.
