Not really a book about Feng Shui

Feng Shui for the Soul has very little to do with traditional Chinese or California-made Black Hat Sect Feng Shui. Denise Linn draws on her own experiences of Native American heritage and combines them with common sense and intuition. She walks the reader through every room of the house suggesting improvements and visualization exercises to create the harmony that¿s right for ¿you.¿ Although she briefly introduces the Bagua Map, the rest of the book teaches you to find out for yourself what feels good to you and not what some ancient rules tell you to do. Believing that ¿one potential pitfall in Feng Shui is to dwell on what is wrong with a building rather than observing what is working well there¿ she encourages the reader to turn typical (traditional) Feng Shui nightmares into advantages. A tree in front of your main entrance? Well, instead of cutting it down, recruit the tree (which is a symbol of strength and protection) as your guardian, ¿so that every time you enter or leave your home you would know that your `Guardian Tree¿ was providing a wonderful protective energy for you.¿ Linn suggests a myriad of well known ¿back-to-nature¿ practices such as dowsing, mandalas, visualization, flower essences, etc. to give your home a soul. So, her book becomes a potpourri of ideas, unfortunately none of them covered in much detail. Also, all the visualization techniques are pretty much the same. Still, if you are interested in traditional Feng Shui, this book may help to get you away from anxiously applying Chinese cures that do not fit into your culture (e.g. wooden flutes or Bagua mirrors in a modern American home). Linn promotes the more intuitive approach 'if it feels right to you, it is right for you,' even if it contradicts traditional Feng Shui rules.

    Goes beyond just rules

Denise Linn talks about the "rules" of Feng Shui and then goes beyond that to address how to make my space a place where my heart sings.

    Feng Shui Made REAL

Denise Linn, in her inimitable manner, takes the detailed concepts of Feng Shui and makes it accessable for Western lifestyles. By taking some of the rigid rules and bending them a bit, she makes the strictness away and makes these time honored principles easy to incorporate into our fast paced daily lived.

You do not lose the flavor and respect for the ancient art of Feng Shui, this is just a gentle adaptation for a more natural way of living. I have incorporated many of her suggestions into my own home and can virtually feel the energy shifts as soon as the changes are made. My home may not be perfectly "Feng Shuied" but it feels warm and inviting and I know I am honoring the ways of the Masters.

    Great Book!
