Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
Both of these guides are well organized, well written, and will be useful to those looking for a special reason to visit some place in the West. And while not comprehensive, the guides do have quite a variety: Redlands Chili Cook-Off, Isleton Crawdad Festival, Coalinga Horned Toad Derby, and McCall Winter Carnival. Each festival listing provides a brief description of the event with dates and hours, a good and legible map, pertinent statistics including town population, last year's festival attendance, average outdoor temperature, a checklist of events, fees, and miscellany (if dogs are allowed, if beer and wine are served), and Chamber of Commerce telephone numbers and names of hotels, motels, and restaurants. Descriptions are conveniently placed for easy photocopying. Indexes are by name of town and name of festival. Each book is arranged geographically: California north to south in regions (350 events); and Northwest by state--Idaho, Oregon, Washington (150 events). Recommended for all public libraries throughout the United States.-- Thomas K. Fry, UCLA Libs.
