I bought this book to help me study for the NICU High Risk Certification test. It is an excellent resource and I love the layout it gives you the reasoning behind the answers. I have used this as a resource for my job in the NICU

Written six years after the first edition (2001), this edition is appropriately updated and the number of contributors has been trimmed from over 150 to 28, lending better consistency to the presentations.
Purpose: According to the very well known and experienced editors, this book is designed "to serve as a primer for the bedside teaching that remains such an important part of medical education." The experience of the writers and editors brings out important and sometimes overlooked aspects of disease management in neonates, making this book more than just an asset in "roundsmanship." These worthy objectives are well met in this edition.
Audience: The book is generally written for practitioners in academia to be used in educational settings. By highlighting the most important aspects as well as some of the obscure "secrets" of each subject, the authors have found an appropriate mix of material that will enhance the teaching of neonatology at the bedside and in the classroom. The editors are certainly well known authorities in the field and most of the contributors have similar recognition.
Features: The book starts with the "Top 100 Secrets," summarizing important details and frequently asked questions on board exams. The rest of the book uses a question and answer format to generally cover the entire field of neonatology, subdivided into major categories such as obstetric issues, cardiology, neurology, and pulmonology. Each chapter has highlighted key points, which alert the reader to the most important aspects of the subject matter. The book has many good charts and tables, but illustrations and pictures are somewhat scarce.
Assessment: This is a unique book in neonatology, unlike any of the major texts or handbooks currently in use. It makes the reader focus on the key aspects of the most important subjects in the field and will be invaluable for teaching as well as preparation for board examinations. The second edition does have many updates from the previous edition, which is important in this rapidly changing area of medicine.
