Crossover is difficult for most opera singers Dawn Upshaw &amp amp amp and the late Eileen Farrell are the only sopranos I know who really did it successfully -- OK, Sylvia McNair and Kathleen Battle as well. Karita will not be joining their ranks. Some of the arrangements -- back-up singers, no less-- are embarrassingly conceived, and Karita's interpretations don't seem to have rhyme nor reason. What a shame for such a classy artist. For those who remember the travesty of Blue Skies&amp amp by te Kanawa, this is its upbeat equivalent. Te Kanawa got better, but whether it's worth Karita's time and whether even then she has the feel are questions I cannot answer.
