Meet the Author

Daniel Carter "Uncle Dan" Beard (1950-1941) was an American illustrator, author, youth leader, and social reformer who founded the Sons of Daniel Boone in 1905, which Beard later merged with the Boy Scouts of America. His celebrated guides also include The American Boy's Handy Book, The American Girl's Handy Book, and The Book of Camp-Lore and Woodcraft, all published by Godine.

The 'Dangerous Book for Boys' of 1906. Full of engaging illustrations and instructions for young outdoor lovers. My husband and son are enjoying it together. (I think my husband likes it even more that my 11-year-old son). Would make a terrific gift.
