About the Author

Ethnobotanist Dr Najma Dharani lectures in Environmental Sciences at Kenyatta University, Kenya. She is the author and photographer of a range of titles including Field Guide to Common Trees and Shrubs of East Africa and Field Guide to Acacias of East Africa. Dr Abiy Yenesew is Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. His primary work concerns the biological activities of medicinal plants. He is also a programme officer with the Natural Product Research Network for Eastern and Central Africa (NAPRECA).
Najma Dharani, the author and photographer, holds a PhD in Plant and Environmental Ecology. She works at Kenyatta University in the Department of Plant Sciences and as Consultant Research Scientist at World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) in Nairobi, Kenya.
