Overview

What would you do for love? Every choice comes with a consequence. And every consequence leads us closer to — or farther away from — our desired destiny.

On a sweltering July afternoon, just days after her birth, Natalie Davenport's destiny is derailed by an impulsive act, thrusting her into a life of secrets, lies and betrayal. As Natalie struggles against her mother's deceit and demands, she finds herself torn between misguided loyalty and a desperate need for love and acceptance. Her decisions are often reckless, defying the "sacred contracts" she made before birth, and mirroring destructive patterns from her past life in France. Despite the challenges of her early years — and her seemingly thwarted destiny — fate steps in several times and offers Natalie a chance at happiness.

Set in New England against a backdrop of social and racial tension, this contemporary novel explores the spiritual themes of karma and free will, taking us to those precise moments of choice where a single decision has the power to change everything.

“Get ready to lose sleep. Field of Destiny is a pager turner, guaranteed to keep you up at night. Sheehy is a master storyteller, inviting us into the lives of characters as flawed and lovable as any of us, struggling against betrayal and past life experiences in search for love and acceptance. A compelling must-read.” ----Prill Boyle, author of Defying Gravity

“Patricia Sheehy does an outstanding job of weaving together an intricate plot that crosses the barriers of time. She has created a wonderful book that will make the reader long to follow the adventures and spiritual growth of these characters though other lifetimes.” --Mary Montague Sikes, author of the Passenger to Paradise Series

Sheehy has the ability to tell a story that keeps the pages turning. I, for one, read the entire book in a two-day period and admit to thoroughly enjoying the more romantic aspects of this tale, especially the very credible relationship between soul mates Nunki and Jabbah as incarnated as Natalie and Johnny. Their reunion although expected, elicited a few well deserved tears, so intense is Sheehy's skill in recreating that feeling one gets from a gift of mutually shared love.

“Sheehy is a masterful storyteller whose style is poignant, evocative and powerful. When Destiny came to its end, I wanted more... much more... of the characters, the story, the lessons, the penetrating questions that reading this book birthed in my own mind. I have no doubt that everyone who reads this book will feel the same way”

i can't remember when I have read a more engrossing book. The author brings her fascinating characters to life in such a way that one cannot help but connect with them from the very first page, rooting for them as they travel on their life's path, anxious when they turn an unknown corner, sympathetic when they stumble, sad when they fall, and happy and excited when you pick themselves up again. Ah, was it my destiny to discover Patricia Sheehy and Field of Destiny or was it a happy accident? Wha

I'd just purchased two other books at the time I bought Patricia Sheehy's "Field of Destiny." I have to admit, I started and was able to put down Joyce Carol Oate's and Don Delillo's new novels ... but NOT Patricia Sheehy's "Field of Destiny." This book draws you in with its fascinating characters, plot and ideas. Other books can wait!

Patricia Sheehy is not only great at writing a wonderful story but she adds real depth to her words to make you think about your own life. When she writes about how we possibly are here repeating past events to learn and grow spiritually it makes so much sense. Particulary, if you have ever encountered people you know that you met before but just can't place why you feel you know them or are so comfortable with them. I can't wait for the sequal.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. In fact, I could not put it down! The characters are so well defined that one becomes completely involved with them and their story. Looking forward to the sequel. Sheehy is a very good writer.

What a thought provoking and wonderful story. I have found my new favorite author in Patricia Sheehy !! Although this is a work of fiction, I found the charactors personalities and feelings so real and deep. The joy, pain and lessons the charactors tried to learn in their lifetimes is what we all hope to learn while we live on this earth. The connectiveness thats felt between the different charactors I know I've felt that myself with certain people in my life. I can't wait for the sequel. THANK YOU PATRICIA SHEEHY !!!

I loved this novel. First, it was exceptionally well-written and the plot well paced so that I wanted to keep reading. And yet I wanted to slow down and enjoy every word and every plot turn. The characters got into my head so that I thought about them all day. Whether or not you embrace ideas such as past lives or soul mates, this is a book well worth reading, as the plot and characters hold independently of those themes. I learned a lot and it made my think more deeply about myself, my destiny and the choices I make. Because, as the author says, "every choice comes with a consequence." This is a book I will likely read again. And I cannot wait for the stand-alone sequel. I highly recommend this novel and this author.

    A true page-turner

This is a wonderfully written, thought-provoking novel. It makes you think about the chances we take, the choices we make, and the path we follow. Does our free will really change our destiny? All the while, you will become engrossed in the lives of each one of these characters. They have such depth and such personality. You can actually feel the turmoil within their human spirit and the difficult decisions they must make throughout their lifetime. As a reader, you become the 'fly on the wall' taking in the all of the surroundings, urging Natalie to make another decision, yet you still understand why she chooses the path she decides to follow. I loved every minute of this book - it is intriguing, filled with hope, filled with reality and it certainly has a destiny of its own!! ENJOY!!!

    Thought Provoking........

Have you ever thought you were somewhere before, but logically you couldn't have? Have you ever had an immediate connection with someone and wondered why? Then you must read this page turning novel. The characters seem so real and the story line so interesting. I can't wait to read the author's sequel to Field of Destiny as I want to learn more about their lives. I will certainly put more thought into which road I choose to take in the future. This is an EXCELLENT novel.
