Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publishers Weekly
Jonathan Fierce first attracted attention as a psychic child in Jamaica by describing crimes that would take place days later. Recruited by the FBI, the adult Fierce accidentally leads his team into a trap and is accused of orchestrating their deaths. He goes on the run to seek revenge for the agents he loved like brothers. Luckily for him, they speak to him from beyond the grave, giving him the benefit of their varied skills. This action story has heart, even if it occasionally relies on clich s of shoot-'em-up violence, and the paranormal element adds an emotional twist. Flashbacks to Fierce's youth in Jamaica are the most enjoyable, their rich coloring evoking the not-so-innocent 1970s. The art is a bit simple and static for the dark plot, but there are moments of real impact, as when we see Fierce looking, well, fierce in the best Van Peebles tradition. The book's multiracial cast makes for a refreshing change and lends energy to the characters and their missions. Occasional stock characters and clunky dialogue don't stop this fast-paced thriller from moving forward. (Apr.) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
