Meet the Author

Sandra Boynton
Sandra Boynton
Sandra Boynton has been a bestselling Workman author for 25 years. She's written the New York Times bestseller Chocolate: The Consuming Passion, the national (and New York Times) bestselling musical for the whole family, Philadelphia Chickens, the phenomenally successful Boynton on Board series (led by Barnyard Dance!), and the one-of-a-kind Grunt, the sublime collection of Pigoroian chant. All told, her books have over 15.3 million copies in print, a number that will already be out-of-date when you read this. She lives with her family in western Connecticut.

Biography

In the 1980s, it was hard to enter a gift shop without seeing Sandra Boynton's name. Her humorous pen-and-watercolor cartoons of hippos, ewes, and her famous turkeys (you know, symbolizing the human ones in life who can get you down) were emblazoned on cards, mugs, stickers, stationery...and of course, her wonderful, wacky books, the first of which was 1979's Hippos Go Berserk! .

Boynton began her career as a greeting card illustrator with aspirations of theater directing; but having a family changed her focus, and she began devoting herself full-time to art. Her board books, filled with goofy animal illustrations and rhyming verse, are toddler staples. But their appeal to adults is undeniable, and she has also written a number of humor books for the general public.

Given the rhythmic, buoyant style of her writing, it was only natural that Boynton would become involved in companion music to her books. From the '90s on, several of her titles included accompanying CDs, culminating in the 2002 release of Philadelphia Chickens, a CD-book extravaganza written with composer Michael Ford and featuring musical performances by several high-profile stars.

Who knows what lies ahead for this irrepressible force of nature? If there's one thing Sandra Boynton has proved in the course of her remarkably diverse career, it's that she's not lost her capacity to surprise us. (Thank heavens!)

Anything by Sandra B is the BEST!

My kids grew up with 'Doggies' and 'Red Hat, Blue Hat'. When friends have kids, I ALWAYS give them a copy. My college age student took 'Doggies' to school with her and my son loves the hippo books. Read this book and glory in the Bobs! You can't go wrong with Sandra Boyton, she is the next best thing to Chocolate!

    Funny story

"Fifteen Animals" is a short, but sweet picture book by Sandra Boynton. The narration is a little bit flat. It is not your usual counting book, in that they do not actually count the animals from 1-15. The plot is simple. A boy loves animals so much that he has 15 of them. He talks about his names for them all. All of the animals are called Bob, except the turtle who has a very long and silly name. We have read it a few times with our 3 year old daughter, and we laugh every time.

    So Cute and Funny!

This is another story that my two year old son loves to hear at bedtime. I think it is absolutely hilarious to have fourteen animals named Bob and then one named Simon James Alexander Ragsdale III. They rhyme is really cute but makes it sort of awkward to point out the numbers to the child while reading. Still very fun to read out loud. Great for story time during the day or for bedtime.

    Sandra Boynton Charm

With her usual charm Sandra Boynton has created an easy to read, easy to love counting book for pre school and early school age children. The numbers aren't as important as the fun as the pages fly by in their charming way until suddenly you get to the surprise ending! My five year old grandson has it memorized, so he now "reads" it to me at our story reading time!

    Great kids book...

My husband found this book and suggested it for a Christmas gift for our son. We love the story, and my son loves to point and name all the animals in the story. Great together time...
