Overview

Marty and Nina are best friends who do everything together. They even have a crush on the same guy-Mr. Truesdale, their fifth grade teacher! Marty and Nina decide to become teacher's pets, but that's easier said than done, since they've never been the best students. However, the most difficult thing Marty and Nina have to learn is that they can be different from one another and still stay best friends. The story moves quickly, is a fun read, and teaches a lot about friendship. -- School Library Journal Michele Granger lives in Montclair, New Jersey.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
A friendship is put to the test when two girls develop crushes on their handsome teacher and compete for his attentions. Ages 8-12. (July)
Children's Literature - Kathleen Karr
Marty and her best friend Nina are two ditzy kids who fall in love with their new male teacher and resolve to do anything to become teacher's pets. Anything for Marty includes trying to pay attention in class and actually doing homework-but she holds the line at outright lying. The results of this unaccustomed moral stance set her at odds with Nina, but true friendship and some semblance of sanity emerge triumphant at the end.
