Overview

I come from a family of fighters. I always thought I’d follow in their shadows, becoming unstoppable in the ring. That changed the day I saved the life of a woman I loved, but could never have.

My brother hailed me as a hero, and my reward was a wheelchair.

Paralyzed, my life became an inescapable nightmare.

Until I met her.

Ash Mabie had a heart-stopping smile and a laugh that numbed the rage and resentment brewing inside of me. She showed me that even the darkest night still had stars, and it didn’t matter one bit that you had to lie in the weeds to see them.

I was a jaded asshole who fell for a girl with a knack for running away. I couldn’t even walk but I would have spent a lifetime chasing her.

Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting the shadows of our past.
Fighting to reclaim my future.
Fighting for her.

The On the Ropes series centers around the gym where the Page brothers fight. I honestly don't know if I could choose which brother I love the most. Each of the three has has so much to offer. Flint was always the book smart one. He's also the one that shielded his brother's wife from a bullet with his own body which put him in a wheelchair. The Page boys had terrible parents so when Till and Eliza became heads of their makeshift family, Flint had his first look at a decent woman. He fell for her hard. Now not only is he unable to walk, but he also has to see the happy couple in love. Ash has had a very tough go at life also, but where the boys had each other, she's only had herself. Amazingly, she's managed to turn into one of the kindest, silliest sweethearts ever. She's so upbeat no matter what life throws her way, exactly what Flint needs in his life. Fighting Shadows is full of great characters who have had major issues in their lives so it's easy to fall for the entire cast. You just wish you could be a part of the gang. Often in stories, I am crazy about the male lead but not so fond of the female lead. Definitely not the case here. I found no faults with anything. Also, I adore how this series has handicapped, strong, pure-hearted men. For me, it was perfect, major feels, and I cannot wait for Quarry's book.

Loved book #2 in this series. Flint is awesome, though at first its hard to see passed the little brother persona. Ash was a harder to love, but the hardships she has gone through are heartbreaking. Q's story looks even more gutwrenching. Might have to take an emotional break for #3!

Flint's journey begins... From the first chapter of 'Fighting Shadows' I was drawn into the lives of Flint, Till, Eliza & Quarry once again. Starting right after 'Fighting Silence' finished we see how Flint is coming to terms with being shot in the back. The struggle he comes to terms with & the massive secret he blurts that makes family life difficult in his eyes. I'm not going to spoil anything about this book. I will say there was very little in the way of tears being spilt from me until the very last chapter. I'm not going to ruin this for you, you need to read & devour this book for yourself. 'Fighting Shadows' is book 2 in Aly's "On the Ropes" series, now I HAVE to read Quarry's book, especially after that ending!!

After the way Fighting Silence ended, I had to read more!! I needed Flint's story. From what I knew of Flint from the prior book in the series, I already liked him. Well, he tried his best to make me not love him even more but failed. His difficult a**holish demeanor is still lovable and easy to understand given his situation. I loved everything about Ash's character. My heart hurt for upbringing but I felt proud of her for outlook on life. I don't think I've ever rooted so hard for characters to overcome as I did for Flint and Ash. My heart hurt so many times while reading this book but it was all worth it because the triumphs far outshine the hurt. This story was really good and I truly love the whole Page family!

MUST READ series. It's not the normal MMA/Boxing story it's even better. The passion, emotions, and the story over all is down right great. I couldn't stop once I really got into the story. It's a heart stopping story. So worth every page and word. Reading it from cover to cover was amazing and fun, laughs and love is what it's really all about. ***I received this story for free in exchange for an honest review, see more of my review @ http://jmhoward2007.blogspot.com ***

I can't tell you how long the wait has been or how excited I've been for this book! I fell in love with the Page boys in Fighting Silence. That book gutted me. Fighting Shadows was like a balm that soothed the pain of the wound. I both loved and hated Flint in this book. I'll explain shortly. I will admit to feeling like the level of angst wasn't very high and I was expecting it to be a lot more. That's not to say this book was light or fluffy, but it didn't hit me as hard emotionally as I was expecting it to. That's hard to say considering what I know of Flint's life and Ash's as well. Easy is not a word in their dictionary or something they have any experience with. Flint and Ash had a lot in common. It drew them together, but also created problems for them as well. Both of them had horrible parents. Their upbringings weren't typical for their peers. Trust was a very big issue for them. My heart broke for them. I loved seeing them together and the connection they had with one another. I did not like the way Flint hurt her though. I also didn't like the way he treated his family. When I mentioned hating Flint, this was the reason. I understood his need for independence, and to make changes in his life, but I didn't understand the way he went about it. I loved seeing Till and Eliza again. I loved seeing Quarry too. My heart broke for him as well in this book, but since he's getting his own story, I hope he'll heal. I loved Flint for his steadfast pursuit of Ash, his determination to stay grounded and handle things to best of his capabilities. Boy was Flint capable! There were a lot of serious moments in this book with some light and sweet ones too. And some really hot ones that would be a crime to forget about. I enjoyed them all. I was seriously hooked to the story. I might have wanted more details about certain people, events, or more emotional angst, but I couldn't put it down. I finished it quickly too, something that only happens when I'm really enjoying a story. I'm hoping the wait between now and Quarry's book won't be so long. I'm very curious to find out the details of his life journey. Aly Martinez has once again done a fantastic job at bringing her characters to life.

A couple of months ago I read my first book by Aly Martinez. To this day, I still think about Fighting Silence and all the extraordinary characters that I discovered on that phenomenal reading journey. I have gifted that book to a few of my book besties because it's simply one of the best books I have ever read!! Aly Martinez delivers once again with the second installment of the On the Ropes Series. Fighting Shadow exceeded all of my expectations!!! I knew that Flint Page would still my heart! I knew it from the moment he was introduced in Fighting Silence. The Page brothers are sitting nice and comfy at the top of my book boyfriends list. Till earned himself a spot on my Masters of Swoon Club and, so did Flint! Be still my beating heart!!! Wheels took a piece of my heart and I DON'T want it back!!!! Flint Page's world came crashing down in a flash. A bullet left him paralyzed and since that day nothing has ever been the same for him. He has no fight left in him until Ash Mabie enters his life. Her personality leaves him speechless and her smile leaves him breathless. Ash is no stranger to running away. When things get complicated she runs away from the boy who stole her heart. Flint his devastated by Ash's departure. He will stop at nothing to find her, but will it be to late to have a second chance once he finds her? Fighting Shadows is one of my top reads of 2015. I got all the feels while reading it. Ash and Flint were a joy to follow and I fell hard for this wonderful couple. I was cheering for them to find their HEA from the first moment that they met! They have such an intense chemistry and the steamy scenes in this book are CALIENTE !! Ash is such a wonderful heroine! She came into Flint's life and she made him see that even in the darkest moments there is always something to fight for. Both these characters have been through a lot at such a young age. Together they found a way to change their life around and accomplish their dreams. Ash's bubbly personality made me laugh and I loved how she slowly made Flint fall in love with her. He was very stubborn and he could not see what was in front of him, but Ash did a great job at getting under his skin. The way she smiled, talked, flirted with him made him fall hard for her. Don't even get me started on Flint Page!!!! Gah!!!! Just his name makes my heart beat fast!!! He was such an intense character!!! I loved how he drastically changed. He was not in a good place at the beginning of the book. You could see him slowly letting go of all the anger that was living inside him. Ash changed his life. His determination to fight for her love was breathtaking! I loved the role that Till, Eliza, Quinn, Slate, Erica and all the other characters had in this story. With the love and support of his family and friends Flint found Ash again. Aly Martinez created a cast of characters that I simply can't get enough of! Her brilliant writing style and her fascinating characters will keep you turning the pages from beginning to end! I read Fighting Shadows in one sitting. I could not put this book down!!! Ash and Flint's beautiful love story will stay with me forever. I got a little emotional towards the end of the book. Q is up next. His story is going to break my heart ... I know it!!! I give Fighting Shadows 5 exquisite, passionate, captivating, emotional stars!

4.5 star This story has a ton of laughs, pain, abuse, and heartbreak. I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed and kept you interested. If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books first. Fighting Silence (On the Ropes, #1) This is Ash and Flint’s story. Flint thinks he is in love with his brother’s girl. He decides the best things to do is leave home and cut off contact. He goes to college but when his younger brother shows up one day with Ash he thinks she is weird but funny. The more they hang out the more he wants her but one night his pushes her away and hurts her by throwing her love back in her face. She runs and it takes him years to find her. Can he convince her that he loves her and wants her with him? Or will she run as soon as she can from him? I loved these characters and also the side characters. There are some tear filled moments and some anger filled moments in this story. But all in all I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

Blown away. Again. At a loss for words at just how magnificent this latest gem from Aly Martinez truly is. It is such an extreme pleasure to witness how her writing continues to raise the bar every single time. This latest in the On the Ropes series is about Flint. Middle Page brother, the one who was destined for not only greatness in the ring but in the classroom as well. But then, fate intervened and using his body as a shield for his brother Till's wife, who also happened to be the woman of his dreams, everything came crashing down. The hopes, the life Flint saw for himself was now nothing more than just a memory. His life would now proceed from the confines of a wheelchair. We now watch as Flint tries to not only make a new path for himself but figure out how to deal with the feelings he has for Eliza Page. The woman who not only stole Till's heart but managed to crawl inside of his own, when she found her way into their lonely lives. But an unexpected force in the form of one Ash Mabie, a newly-found comrade for youngest brother Quarry, manages to turn Flint's world upside-down. He fights any sort of feelings for this whirlwind of a woman but somehow she seeps into his soul and captures his heart. The heart he had thought was promised to another but with time realizes that he was simply waiting for the right woman to claim it. To say this is a beautiful read is an understatement. As with every one of Aly Martinez’s books, her words are equally touching as they are funny; as heartbreaking as they are heartwarming. There are so many layers to this story. This isn’t just Flint’s journey. Through alternating POV’s we also get inside Ash’s head and see firsthand the deplorable life she has had to endure at the hands of her slimy father Ray; the man who is also ‘married’ to Flint’s mother. The mother that abandoned her sons for her next fix and anyway she could get it. Although Ash is one incredible heroine and her wicked humor kept me smiling, together she and Flint are two broken people. And yet through Ash and her hopeful and caring ways, both she and Flint forge a bond that is as unexpected as it is fated. There are many twists and turns to this story and just when you think it’s nearing its end, there is surprisingly more and you realize just how happy you are at that notion. The secondary characters from previous books are all there in support of our man Flint. It is the character of Eliza, however, who almost steals the spotlight. The way she cares for Flint and serves as the glue that keeps the Page family together was simply incredible. Her selflessness and true love for her Page men and the women they adore was admirable. She embraces Ash even when there are hostile feelings at the surface and is the one to help smooth things even after a painful separation. Overall this is a book about second chances. About the will to change and the faith that love can truly conquer all. It is a love story that isn’t an easy one yet with some much needed humor and honesty; we are treated to one that won’t soon leave our thoughts. A huge 5+++ stars with huge anticipation for Quarry’s story next. I simply can’t get enough.
