Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Cheryl Williams Chang
This is one of eight books in "The Making of a Monster: Vampires & Werewolves" series. Subjects in this interesting book include recognizing vampires and werewolves, how to protect one 's self against the beasts, rules for dating vampires and werewolves, and how to become a vampire or werewolf. Due to the subject matter, advanced vocabulary, and sarcastic tone, this book is definitely geared for an older reading crowd. Most of this book is filled with text. There are a few photographs and/or illustrations. They are of a dark nature and some verge on gory. There are some inconsistencies in the writing and some subjects are not completely developed. However, there is intrigue in vampires and werewolves currently, so this may not matter to a middle school student. The reference page can lead a reader to further information if he or she wishes to learn more about vampires and werewolves. This book includes a table of contents, glossary, bibliography, and reference page with web sites. In a middle school setting, the best place for this book is in the library.
