    Operation Lunamoth ~ Part 1

    I flinched, ripped from the flashback, as a midnight black hoof rested gently on my shoulder.
    <p>
    "Bluesheath, you okay, sweetie?"
    <p>
    "I'm fine, Dad." I shrugged off White Raven's hoof, turning away from the grave. I dragged my hooves through the collecting snow, my ears lying flat from the blowing winds.
    <p>
    My father watched me skeptically and followed wordlessly.
    <p>
    I spread my large lavender-blue wings and took to the air, fighting through the strengthening gale. I veered towards Everfree, vaguely spotting our house.
    <p>
    I dropped down by the door, about to open it when White Raven landed beside me and put his hoof back on my shoulder. "Bluesheath. Wait."
    <p>
    I sighed in exhasperation, "Dad, I--"
    <p>
    He shushed me. "There's a new mission."
    <p>
    My ears perked up. "Really? So that's why Mum was acting so strangely this mornin'." I muttered, half to myself.
    <p>
    White Raven nodded half-heartedly. "They say it's a dangerous one. A mad killer on the loose in Ponyville. Moone--Mum didn't want you to know about it."
    <p>
    My cheeks flamed with anger unwillingly. "She doesn't think I can do it?!" I almost screamed in indignation.
    <p>
    White Raven shushed me again quickly. "You know she just doesn't want you to get hurt."
    <p>
    I huffed. "So why are you telling me?"
    <p>
    He wrapped his wing around me in a silent hug. "'Cause, even though you'll always be my little filly, I know you can do it."
    <p>
    I ducked below my scarf to hide my embarressed grin and pushed the door open, welcoming the warm scents gladly.
    <p>
    The air smelled of sugar and chocolate, a hint of mint sharpening it nicely.
    <p>
    I pushed Dad's words away into the back of my mind and hung my scarf on the rack, prancing to the kitchen.
    <p>
    I nearly guffawed when I saw my younger brother, Night Ace, half covered in flour. My mum, Blue Moon (More commonly known as Moone), scolding him threateningly with a wooden spoon.
    <p>
    Night Ace ducked a blow to his ears and scurried out of the kitchen, a chocolate cupcake expertly hidden from our mother's view.
    <p>
    I smirked and made my way over puddles of flour to Mum.
    <p>
    Moone turned back to the counter, putting the remaining cupcakes in a safe location. "How'd it go, Bluey?"
    <p>
    I rolled my eyes at the corny nickname. "It was same as always, Mum."
    <p>
    "Mmmmhmmm." Moone murmured, grabbing a broom and beginning to sweep the flour into tall piles. "Would you, hon'?" She asked expectantly.
    <p>
    I mumbled a, 'Fine,' and swept the flour piles out the backdoor into the snow and put my hoof to them. Warmth spread from it and a brilliant blue flame licked up to my ankle.
    <p>
    I wrinkled my nose at the acrid smell of the burning flour and stepped back inside, turning back for a moment to watch the smoke rise into the oncoming blizzard.
    <p>
    For a brief second, the dancing snowflake-mingled-wind made a flickering flower in the darkening sky with the smoke. I blinked in surprise, and it was gone. . .
    <p>

    Super book for the non programmer

    I actually purchased this book at the Devcon this year before it was released publicly. Since then I have read and re-read several chapters and hi-lighted nearly a third of the book. The beginning of the book consists mainly of HTML which I did not really need, but it quickly moved to CSS - which was a nice refresher, right into PHP basics. I have done a little PHP programming before, but this book certainly tied things together for me. I realized that I was writing a lot of redundant code, and the book helped me simplify my pages. I highly recommend this book to beginners and intermediate developers. While it does cover some advanced topics, there are some other pure PHP books that go into more detail. Perhaps an advanced book or an online resource would be nice.
