Editorial Reviews

Booknews
For cinema producers, dance and music maestros, as well as aficionados who would feel bereft if musical interludes were cut from films, such as the torrid tango between a "blind" Al Pacino and hired lady friend in "The Scent of a Woman" (1992), this photo- rich compendium offers filmographies by decade and biographies of major cinematic dance-related figures from choreographer Merriel Abbott ("Swing Fever", 1944) to Lachen Zinoune ("The Last Temptation of Christ", 1988). Also details awards, industry unions, what defines a musical, and "trends for the 1990s and beyond." Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.

    A wow of a book on Hollywood's Choreographers/Dancer Directors

In this expansive encyclopedia, author Billman offers a comprehensive who's who of Hollywood film choreographers and dance directors. Each entry provides a brief biography/perspective of the talent under examination as well as providing their film credits and their career contributions in other mediums. Of particular interest are the author's essays on the history/development of screen dance as techniques, style, and technology impacted how choreographers and dance directors handle their dance chores in Hollywood productions over the many decades. A book well worth buying....and enjoying!
