Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jean Boreen
In this fourth casebook from the series, the Irregulars find themselves being moved out of town for their own safety. Holmes decides that their activities could be too dangerous to them as he has finally managed to pull down Professor Moriarty's criminal network and Moriarty is not going away without a fight. But even the best of intentions can backfire, and the Irregulars, split into two groups, still end up being integral to Holmes fight against Moriarty. This book follows "The Adventure of the Final Problem," the original story by Arthur Conan Doyle in which he has Sherlock "disappear" after an important interaction with the Professor. As with the other books in this series, the characters most full developed are Wiggins, Ozzie, and Pilar, but the younger boys actually get a bit more time to show off their skills as they work to protect Holmes and Watson in England. This series has definitely been a fun and often exciting read for middle school and upper elementary readers, and may well have helped a new generation become interested in Sherlock Holmes. Reviewer: Jean Boreen, Ph.D.
