What People Are Saying

Colin Wilson
The moral dilemma posed by Final Truth is curiously reminiscent of that posed by Dostoevsky in Crime and Punishment - but I doubt that even Dostoevsky's imagination could have conceived a character at once as commonplace, yet hideously evil, as 'Pee Wee' Gaskins -without doubt, the worst Serial Killer of all time.
—Colin Wilson, The Outsider; Killers Among Us; A Criminal History of Mankind; Alien Dawn
Thomas J. Andrews
Author-journalist Wilton Earle spent fifteen-months eliciting from Donald 'Pee Wee' Gaskins this graphic version of Gaskins life and crimes. The result is a remarkable book that enables the reader to better understand the thoughts and emotions of a man who killed from a psychopathic need to identify with his victims through the joining of his own pain with theirs. Final Truth provides rare insight into a killer's tortured mind. I recommend it to psychiatrists, psychologists, and anyone in the forensic field.

    disturbing

First I have to say.. i'm only half way thru the book. I am giving it 5 stars because I have never read anything so grafic. Last night I got to the point in the book where he murdered the mother and went to the 2 year old. I read a few words into the 2 year old and had to throw the book down, I felt faint (I have a 2 1/2 year old so it was hard) I had to put cold towels on my face. I ended up putting the book in a closet. That's not like me, I have read and seen quite a bit on serial killers. My favorite and who I thought was the worst to date is Jeffery Dahmer - I have different thoughts now. I read The Milwaukee Murders just before this one and was disapointed that it was not as grafic as Jeffery was in his murders. Donald 'Pee Wee' really takes you into the mind of a serial killer. I don't know if I will be able to pick up the book again, but if I do I know I will enjoy it, I just can't put past myself that he hurt such a little life and did what he did to it. To me that almost makes what Jeff Dahmer did excusable.

    BONE CHILLING

I first read this book about 4 years ago and it gave me chills... the way pee wee describes each of his victims and what he did to them was just bone chilling ..he tells of each of his victims in full detail.. he even killed one of his own relatives.. pee wee was one of the most disturbed people i ever read about .and i found that i couldnt put the book down , it was so graphic i felt like i was there right beside pee wee watching him do all of this .. the best true story i ever read i would have gave it 10 stars but they only go to 5... T.J.

I've read over 100 different Serial books. Unless you've really developed a desire to learn, I won't advise this quite yet. It's his words, nothing else. And it is a very chilling view of a mind gone bad. There are things in here that were bad enough, friends of mine wouldn't finish it. I should mention, I work for a police department, so if cops can't deal with it, be forewarned. Pee Wee's story is compelling, interesting and very honest.. It isn't so much as to what he's done. It's more amazing at the things he was capable of doing. He's not a well known serial as I ran into it by chance. But if you can make it through the whole book, you'll see what I mean. This is the first book I've ever read that was indeed "first person". His words, his story, his way. So if you are one of us who love to crawl into the human mind, this is a great book to read. But if you're just a novice fan, I don't advise this to anyone. Pee Wee is real and was active. That's the scariest thing I've ever dealt with in my life. Just think, there may be someone else out there just like him.

    more from this reviewer

Final Truth = definition of pure evil.

I have read this book twice and each time I enjoyed it thoroughly. Pee Wee Gaskins tells his story in gory details, he leaves nothing to the imagination. Gaskins tales are sick, interesting, horrifying, fascinating - the book is a page-turner, it flows. The murder details in this book are so atrocious that at times I felt as if I were reading fiction written by a twisted author. The author was, indeed, more than twisted, but his book is no fiction.

    Truthfully Disturbing

I stumbled across this book and was dared to read it in its entirety. As an avid reader of many subjects, how hard can that be? Believe me when I say that this book was worth the dare.
To read the actual words of Gaskins' first hand accounts of the crimes he committed pushed me to my limit and made me question my intentions for continuing to read the book. The first person perspective is what made the book appealing to me initially but it does come at a price. The graphic detail, the morbid perspective, and the disregard for the victims who suffered beyond true comprehension made me fear Gaskins even in death.
I will never re-read this book and I would question anyone who does!
And although this book was hard to read and guiltily entertaining, the book is an unfiltered look into a disturbed mind that shows us how far away from humanity and decency some of us are.

Highly Recomend- for ADULTS, who like factual reading, graphic

I read this book in 2 days, between work and home, like others have said, hard to put down, but then again, there were times I had to put it down, due to being so real, as I live now in Sumter SC, and have heard of him, and only recently found the book, and read immediately. I personally found it to be very real, and facts from what I have heard from others who have lived here there whole lives. Being in the medical field, I wondered of his mental status, and how far we have come in our legal, justice system. Was SHOCKED at how many times he escaped prison, and when he went back, how he manipulated the legal system. I have a line of people wanting to read this book, and tell everyone who gets it from me,, to be forewarned. Yes, takes you into the mind of a sick person, and makes you think twice when approached by strangers, and when the red flag goes up in your brain about a strange person,, listen to your instincts, these people exsist.

Starr's Understanding of 'The Final Truth'

I really love this book, it was truely outstanding. I would only recommend it to mature people. The language is pretty dirty, but it's coming directly from the source, which was Donald Henry Gaskins, Jr. That's what made it so real. This story keeps you reading until the end, you never want to put it down. It begins telling you how confusing and sad Donald's life was, which was a clear shot to explaining why he grew up like he did. He never had a father, thousands of step-daddies, but no father. His step-fathers were sad. They treated him like dirt. They didn't teach him anything about becoming a good successful man. Later on in the book he begins telling about how he got the taste for murdering and how it made his feel so good. He said when he first begain killing which Donald called his 'Serious Murders' began in Florence and Sumter South Carolina. That's where he started killing people he knew. Later on he was tired of his name it was so confusing that people started calling him Junior or Pee Wee Parrott, because he was so small. So he just stuck with Pee Wee Gaskins. This book is great and I don't want to ruin it for you. If you read it you will definitely not regret it.

Inside the Mind of a Killer

Truly an excellent work. Shows the deepest ideas of Gaskins and how he thinks he did nothing wrong. How a person can get enjoyment out of such horrific actions shows how sick a person can get. Anyone who is employed in Law Enforcement, as a Lawyer, or any other Public Safety job should read this and look into the mind of a serial killer.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the study of crime.

i am really interested in serial killers and i think that this is a outstanding book. I would recommend this book to anyone who also loves the study of crime because this book shows you just how clever people really can be. i don't think that this is a good idea on what he has done but i think it is interesting on how he got away with some of the things that he done and how long it took the investigators to finally realize that he was a murderer.

I have read numerous true crime books and this has been the only one that has truly allowed me an opportunity to hear the killer's view. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book that will shock and disgust them.

    Evil or Human

I have read this book more than once and I still can't get enough of it. I have tried to convince my friends to read this book but they are too afraid. While reading 'Final Truth' I have never felt scared, disgusted, or angry. Instead I have felt one with this man. Some have blame his 'evil' ways on his childhood but, really who has lived a perfect life, not I. Pee Wee was open and enjoyed life to the fullest even if it wasn't moral. As for me I feel rather sad that he is dead and to me he was no less or more of a human being.

Pee Wee Gaskins.....Informative, too informative maybe

Met the guy a few times, in Florence South Carolina. My mother worked at a place called Jack's Soda Shop. It was sort of like Arnold's on the Happy Days tv show. I remember my best friend and I playing in the hearse he drove. He seemed normal for the most part, just basically seemed like a little guy trying to act big, in a redneck sort of way. I had heard he had killed a few people, but I never knew to what extent. It kind of brought about a chill, thinking we use to play in his car. I really enjoyed the book, very informative.

    Very Interesting and horrifically appealing

I read this book only a few years ago, and it was the most interesting book that I have ever read. Very sick and disturbing, and I feel very sorry for those who went through anything like this. But I read this book without boredom. It was like, I could not put it down, I kept wanting to read more and more. It was interesting and made me feel a ton of emotions inside. It made me feel so sorry for those who were killed. In this book are words from the own killers mouth, so you are not reading something some person you never heard of wrote. You are reading a book the killer told hisself. If you read this book, hopefully you will have a strong stomach, but I garuanty that you will never forget it!
