Overview

Truth is dead.

God never lived.

Life is filled with pain.

Death is the end of life.

These beliefs formed Alicia Britt Chole's worldview as a young woman. "I sincerely believed that there was no God," she says. "As a young Atheist, I simply considered myself a realist who preferred unanswered questions over fairy tales."

Then one day, without warning, Alicia's Atheistic worldview was shattered.

Creatively written, Finding an Unseen God opens a window into Alicia's surprising spiritual journey. With warmth, intellect, and compassion, Alicia invites us to carefully consider what we believe and do not believe, while she paints a vivid portrait of a God who relentlessly pursues even those who deny him.

"Alicia's heartfelt and thoughtful words penetrate the soul and make you feel and think in new ways."—Mark Batterson, author of In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day

A gifted speaker, reflective author, and seasoned mentor, Alicia Britt Chole relishes every messy moment of life with her tribe of five in the Ozarks of Missouri.

What People Are Saying

Violet Nesdoly
"This slim book is a quick read (it took me about three hours) but packs a big punch. Not only is Chole's story absorbing but the apologetic chapters discussing faith, spirituality and religion are persuasive and easy to understand. Read the book to open your mind to the possibility that God really exists, or to strengthen the faith you already have, or to learn how to relate to those whose beliefs differ from yours. Finding an Unseen God would be of special interest to atheists and those who love them."--(Violet Nesdoly, Blogcritics.org)
TitleTrakk.com
"I highly recommend Finding An Unseen God: Reflections of a former Atheist for all people--no matter where they may be on their life's timeline whether pursuing God or ignoring Him (and still being pursued). This will definitely be a Christmas gift to friends, family and fellow employees."--(Dale Lewis, TitleTrakk.com)

    Inspiring Testimony

The cover is actually what grabbed my attention at first and drew me to actually read the book. The fact that it's an unusual cover, made to look like a word search puzzle, intrigued me. Imagine my surprise when I opened the book and saw an actual word search puzzle that the reader can complete, with answers at the back of the book. The chapters are numbered in an interesting way as well, sort of like a cross word puzzle. This book is also a quick read, a bonus for me, I read it completely in one day. The book comes in at 176 pages and that includes the appendix and notes.

I enjoyed this book, the fact that the author admits to being an Atheist and then giving her life to Christ is a wonderful testimony to God's pursuing even the most resistant person. Alicia also gives ways to lovingly respond to an Atheist when discussing our beliefs with theirs, yes, she points Atheist's do have a belief system. Finding really helped me to understand an Atheist's frame of mind in why they deny an existence of God, also she made it clear that a Pagan is not the same thing as an Atheist. I recommend this for any Christian who enjoys reading awesome testimonies of the Lord's work or wants to know about how to respond to Atheists in a Christian manner.

    Very interesting book

I have finished a unique book from Bethany House Publishers called Finding An Unseen God by Alicia Britt Chole. I'll admit this book is different from most books I read, but I found it to be very thought-provoking and interesting.

This is the story of how the author, a former Atheist, found God. I found myself wanting to keep reading chapter after chapter. Her writing style really holds the readers attention; the book format is unique as well in the way the short (normally 2-3 pages each) chapters are ordered in the book, alternating between Alicia's flashback to her past up to her point of belief and information regarding religion, beliefs, and God. She challenges the reader to consider their own beliefs and offers some questions that will force the reader to examine their faith.

My husband read this book before I did and found it to be an enjoyable read for him as well. I enjoyed reading the book and would recommend it to others. I like the creative puzzle on the cover too.

    creative & inviting

Finding an Unseen God is an easy, but profound read. I was immediately captivated by the creative chapter arrangement as thoughtful retrospect, observation and realization weave through the author's personal life story.

She clarifies some murky waters through her observations of Atheism, Theism and society's common perception of the two. With a gentle yet confident voice, the author invites the reader to a conversation with honest, reflective questions.

Chole doesn't shy away from real life, but invites you into her world with stories that will make you laugh, cry, and ponder.

Put Finding an Unseen God at the top of your summer reading list.

A Tough Read with Some Real Nuggets of Inspiration

I just finished reading "Finding an Unseen God" by Alicia Britt Chole. Alicia, in her youth, formed some harsh beliefs about God, or rather her belief in the non-existence of God. She was a die hard atheist.

Then one day while visiting a church with the "Bowheads", a nickname she gave to 2 young Christian girls who always wore bows in their hair, she had a change of heart. More precisely, she had a life changing spiritual experience with God.

In this book, she chronicles her personal life at home, her struggles in school and her continual denial of God. Though her story is interesting, I really struggled with keeping my interest. Each chapter alternated between her story and her reflections on Atheism, making it difficult to follow. The chapters about her personal life tend to jump all around adding to my confusion.

The thing that pulled it all together was the fact that the chapters were short which allowed me to read in short bursts, while cooking, doing laundry and relaxing at home. She tells a story that really struck a chord deep within me. She was in college, and started debating with a Muslim man about religion. When there was a pause in conversation, he commented that "followers of Jesus were supposed to love people." She then realized that winning an argument mattered little. It's stories like these that really held my interest. Overall, despite the story jumping around in time, Alicia offered some real nuggest of truth in her book.
