Overview

How well do you actually know God?

Do you see Him as an absentee landlord? A distant deity? An old man in the clouds?

Have you heard Him laugh? Have you experienced Him as jealous, protective or wildly loving? Have you seen Him weep for His people or felt His bone-crushing embrace? Do you believe these things are even possible?

Maybe you've been settling for a caricature of God.

You don't have to.

In this poignant and down-to-earth book, popular filmmaker Darren Wilson takes a closer look at God by looking at the way He treats His friends. Through modern-day stories of supernatural experiences and an astonishingly fresh take on familiar Bible stories, you'll get to know God in a way you never imagined.

Learn to hear the thundering beauty of His voice, and begin your own crazy, life-changing friendship with your Creator.

"Wilson, a film director and founder of Wanderlust Productions, takes us through the major stories of the Bible, asking the hard questions and ultimately concluding that what God wants from us first and foremost is our trust and friendship. For those wanting to step forward in faith or those wanting a better understanding of how to reach the unchurched, Finding God in the Bible is both readable and meaningful."

Darren Wilson is such a gifted writer!  He simplifies huge concepts in a way that is engaging and understandable, and he also just knows how to tell a good story.  Highly recommend this book to anyone interested in becoming a 'friend of God.'

This is a book about friendship with God, plain and simple.   The author uses Bible stories to illustrate God’s love and faithfulness to those who befriend Him.   Delving deeply into curious events in the Bible, Wilson reveals reasons and explanations that speak to God’s character and nature.  Wilson also invites readers to compare their own experiences, relationships and lives with those in the Bible.  It turns out that the people in the Old Testament faced the same problems, temptations and emotions that we see today.

The writing is simple, down to earth and even humorous, at times.  Wilson writes the way friends speak to one another.  The humor helps to emphasize the sameness in people of all times who seek a friendship with God.  Who can resist chapters with titles like “And You Think Your Family Is a Bunch of Jerks!” and “All the Weirdos in the Old Testament”?   Saints, sinners, prophets and apostles were all just ordinary people who made mistakes, yet sought and found true friendship with God.

Finding God in the Bible invites readers to dive into a deep, lifelong friendship with God.  Knowing and understanding more about God, especially through the person of Jesus Christ, can only bring an even deeper desire to know, love and serve Him and to be His friend.  Rather than quenching a thirst for God’s love and friendship, this book will make readers thirsty for more.  Fortunately, there is an infinite amount!

I was given a free copy of this book by Chosen Books of Baker Publishing Group, for the purpose of review.  I recommend this book for adult and teenage readers.

    He does it again

Darren takes you on an easy to follow journey. Another "hard to put down" book. You want to keep reading. Very relational, both in the way he relates to his readers & in how he shows us relationship with Christ. Another awesome book!
