Page turner! Fascinating story weaving family lore of tragic historic events into a modern day mystery.
Did you ever have family secrets about historical events, secrets that didn't get discussed outside the family, and now the family is disappearing and so is the history. This author weaved together stories that have been haunting her for ages into a fast paced, somewhat factual, picturesque, fictional accounting with a metaphorical search for gold. It's set in the beautiful backdrop of Utah, back before the west was settled. It shows the good, bad, and ugly truths of the age old fight for turf and power in the name of religion. There are many opinions out there on what really happened. I prefer to believe Lee was a man of honor, integrity, intelligence and loyal to a man that took advantage of it. This book is controversial and some might find it utterly offensive. Truth can be painful and ugly. Acknowledging it, becoming aware and searching for it is important. Search for your own truth and allow others their own.
Nice job Sharon. Can't wait for your next book. You can sure tell a good story!!!

Overview
Sarah's screaming woke her from a deep sleep. The nightmare always displayed the slaughter at Mountain Meadows in 1857 in southern Utah. She heard the chaos, the loud voices, the cries of the wounded and the dying, the calls from children trying to find their parents, and the elderly who had trouble finding shelter. It took three days and some trickery to kill them all. Only 19 children under the age of eight were allowed to live. Sarah reached for the box of tissues and decided not to even attempt to go back to sleep. She knew the only way to stop the nightmares was to find the truth. She packed her suitcase and headed for southern Utah.
