Los Angeles Daily News
Roberts is indeed a word artist, painting her characters with vitality and verve.
Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
If Freud wanted to know what women want, he should have asked Nora Roberts, who seems to have it down cold and can reproduce it several times a year. In the last installment of her Dream trilogy (Daring to Dream, Holding the Dream) about three friends who grew up together in a mansion in Big Sur, rich-girl Laura Templeton"so polished, so perfect"meets her love match in bad-boy Michael Fury, a modern-day Heathcliff who is renting her stables. Michael, a handsome mutt of a man with no roots and a yearning heart, doesn't really know if he has much to give an American princess like Laura, who is recovering from a bad divorce and raising two children. But the reader knows, and Roberts sees to it that Laura gets it in spades. As formula romance, it's unbeatable. (Aug.)

Meet the Author

Nora Roberts is the number-one New York Times-bestselling author of more than 190 novels, including The Search, Black Hills, Tribute, High Noon, and many more. She is also the author of the bestselling futuristic suspense series written under the pen name J.D. Robb. Roberts has more than 400 million copies of her books in print.

Biography

Not only has Nora Roberts written more bestsellers than anyone else in the world (according to Publishers Weekly), she’s also created a hybrid genre of her own: the futuristic detective romance. And that’s on top of mastering every subgenre in the romance pie: the family saga, the historical, the suspense novel. But this most prolific and versatile of authors might never have tapped into her native talent if it hadn't been for one fateful snowstorm.

As her fans well know, in 1979 a blizzard trapped Roberts at home for a week with two bored little kids and a dwindling supply of chocolate. To maintain her sanity, Roberts started scribbling a story -- a romance novel like the Harlequin paperbacks she'd recently begun reading. The resulting manuscript was rejected by Harlequin, but that didn't matter to Roberts. She was hooked on writing. Several rejected manuscripts later, her first book was accepted for publication by Silhouette.

For several years, Roberts wrote category romances for Silhouette -- short books written to the publisher's specifications for length, subject matter and style, and marketed as part of a series of similar books. Roberts has said she never found the form restrictive. "If you write in category, you write knowing there's a framework, there are reader expectations," she explained. "If this doesn't suit you, you shouldn't write it. I don't believe for one moment you can write well what you wouldn't read for pleasure."

Roberts never violated the reader's expectations, but she did show a gift for bringing something fresh to the romance formula. Her first book, Irish Thoroughbred (1981), had as its heroine a strong-willed horse groom, in contrast to the fluttering young nurses and secretaries who populated most romances at the time. But Roberts's books didn't make significant waves until 1985, when she published Playing the Odds, which introduced the MacGregor clan. It was the first bestseller of many.

Roberts soon made a name for herself as a writer of spellbinding multigenerational sagas, creating families like the Scottish MacGregors, the Irish Donovans and the Ukrainian Stanislaskis. She also began working on romantic suspense novels, in which the love story unfolds beneath a looming threat of violence or disaster. She grew so prolific that she outstripped her publishers' ability to print and market Nora Roberts books, so she created an alter ego, J.D. Robb. Under the pseudonym, she began writing romantic detective novels set in the future. By then, millions of readers had discovered what Publishers Weekly called her "immeasurable diversity and talent."

Although the style and substance of her books has grown, Roberts remains loyal to the genre that launched her career. As she says, "The romance novel at its core celebrates that rush of emotions you have when you are falling in love, and it's a lovely thing to relive those feelings through a book."

Good To Know

Roberts still lives in the same Maryland house she occupied when she first started writing -- though her carpenter husband has built on some additions. She and her husband also own Turn the Page Bookstore Café in Boonsboro, Maryland. When Roberts isn't busy writing, she likes to drop by the store, which specializes in Civil War titles as well as autographed copies of her own books.

Roberts sued fellow writer Janet Dailey in 1997, accusing her of plagiarizing numerous passages of her work over a period of years. Dailey paid a settlement and publicly apologized, blaming stress and a psychological disorder for her misconduct.

What do you mean it's not available as an e-book?!?!!?

I am very disappointed. I haven't purchased a book (except reference and "how-to") since I got my nook. And after learning that this 3rd in the Dream Trilogy series is not available electronically, I have determined that I will not start a new series unless all books are available as e-books.

    Need this in ebook

I have the first two books on my Nook. I will not buy this book any other way. The next time I buy a series I won't until all books are ebooks. That is why I got a nook. The first two books in the series were great. Someday I hope to read this one.

    why not on ebook

I purchsed a nook in May, 2010. I have been very disappointed in the fact that you can't buy all books on ebooks. I have read the entire J.D. Robb series, Sue Grafton (last one I can't read because it is not on ebooks) and Catherine Coulter (FBI series)(last one is not on ebook.) If I had know this I would not have purchased a nook.

    Need ebook format

This third book in a series (!) needs to be available as an ebook! It makes no sense to offer 2 books as ebooks and not the third. I have a nook and will NOT buy a hard copy of this book.

    Great ending to set!!

This book was a great ending to the set. I couldn't put it down. I really hope that Nora Roberts comes out with more books about the childern in these books to continue the series.

why can't this book be a e-book as well. I love the first 2 books but i would rather have it in the e-book rather than paperback.

Need to be available as an ebook!

I have to agree with the others, it makes no sense to offer 2 of the 3 in a series as ebooks. That makes me not want to get the other 2 unless I can get the complete series.

    Why not available on Nook?

Very disappointed I downloaded & read the first 2 in the series on my nook but the third Finding the Dream seems not to be available to download. Why would the first 2 be available & not the 3rd, it would have been better not to have any than just have some. I am a new nook owner and have enjoyed it until now.

If i could only give it more stars...

This book is amazing. It is by far my favorite Nora Roberts book, and the best of the trilogy. It has the sweetest romance that it will make you cry. You find yourself rooting for them, and laughing with them. You won't regret reading this, and it will definitely become a favorite.

    Amazing

This is the most amazing series and there is no better closing book than Finding the Dream. The love between Micheal and Laura is so strong you find yourself rooting for them and getting to see more of the characters whom you grew so attached to in the first two books is fantastic. Plus with such a charming hero in Mick, how could you go wrong?

Zero stars. This is an unpleasant bodice ripper, complete with helpless female issuing weak protestations while the controlling, angry male from the wrong side of the tracks barks out orders and demands. References to fate and destiny abound. The book is full of ridiculous events such as Laura adopting cats from the pound to catch rodents – pound cats are house cats, not barn cats – in an attempt to demonstrate Laura’s softhearted practicality. The only redeeming occurrence in this book is Michael taking Laura’s incredibly bratty older daughter to task for her hateful behavior.

Very satisfying conclusion to a fun trilogy. I very much enjoyed this older series from Ms. Roberts. Per her usual style, each book features one of three main female characters that grew up as sisters. I liked this novel best of the three. I was surprised that the characters young children added a great deal to the story. The male hero in this volume was a very alluring combination of dark looks and a rogue-ish persona. All fans of Nora (and romance in general) will love this set of books.
