Former USCF EXPERT Ray ("Mr. Miniature") Gordon has held his own against the best players in the world in the opening. Since he no longer has use for his opening repertoire due to an unfortunate reduction in his eyesight, he has chosen to share the product of several years of hardcore opening training with his readers.
This text will teach the reader how to play the opening well enough to win their games in 25 moves or less, or what they call a miniature. All major main line openings are covered, along with several lesser known, yet equally sound variations which will both surprise and challenge even world class opponents.
While this text is greatly enhanced by computer analysis, it is most definitely a "human" book. Ray explains not only which opening moves to play, but why to play them, and he also covers, extensively how to play the opening.
For four years, Ray was an aspiring World Chess Champion and began his quest by focusing exclusively on the opening. While he never finished his mission, you can benefit from his work for the amazing low price of $9.99.
Unfortunately, because Ray was unable to finish this text, portions of his repertoire are not included in the text. He does cover the all-important Sicilian Defense (where he diverts from the main line at move three without a loss of position) while providing innovative, original and exceptionally strong approaches to other openings, including the Pirc, Alekhine's Defense, Caro-Kan, Ponziani, French Defense (which Ray plays from both sides), and more!! By far the best coverage is given to the Sicilian, where Ray shows a way to escape the main lines at move THREE, while covering transpositions to the English Opening as the main sideline. This alone is worth several times the cost of the book!
Finally, the reader will also learn Ray's groundbreaking, formational approach to the opening, emphasizing transpostional play, which greatly reduces the number of lines you will need to study.
Not only will you never find a better chess opening book for $9.99, but this text will also spare you the need to have to spend $999 or more on specialized, obsolete, opening texts, which are designed more to enrich their authors and publishers, and to truly help you understand the opening.
Ray Gordon is also the author of such books as "Bettor Off Single: Why Commitment is a Bad Gamble For Men" as well as "Help Wanted: Female," "Outfoxing The Foxes" and "29 Reasons Not To Be A Nice Guy." He also is creator of Price and Probability, a revolutionary method for Horse Racing.
