    Thanksgiving is one of the three biggest American holidays where family gather together where eating is the main event. It is also a holiday where we follow a traditional menu which in clued turkey, cranberries, pumpkin, green beans, potatoes and dinner roll as the basics and add to them. Fine Cooking Thanksgiving Cookbook is just the book to help you with those preparations. They go so far as to give you hints and tips on everything from how to quickly thaw a frozen turkey to how to do most of your labor intensive work ahead of time to how to avoid or correct some of the most common cooking problems. When it comes to the turkey itself they tell you how to figure the size of the bird needed to feed a few to a crowd. How to tress it up, pan selection and whether to brine or not. They even show you how to carve the turkey in such a manner as even a novice, like myself, looks. You can not go wrong with this cookbook.


    The recipes cover everything from appetizers like Rosemary-Parmesan Coins, on to the soup/salad coarse with Cranberry/Pear Salsa, to the dessert course and everything in between. You can keep your favorite traditional dishes and try a few new ones on for size. The recipes are well written with easy to follow instructions. The dishes turn out so flavorful and appreciated by the family. With Thanksgiving in the not to distant future I wanted to try the Smoked Paprika & Fennel Seed Roast Turkey with Onion Gravy, I followed the do ahead instructions and found it did leave me with an easier pace on the day I served the big bird. We had our thanksgiving dinner sandwiches for the next two days and froze the rest for salads and such later, but I did not want to overwhelm my family with turkey before Thanksgiving actually arrives.


    The side dishes such as dressing/stuffing (depending on where you are from) is a popular dish in my family and I usually make extra to freeze for later use. The cookbook also provides a variety of dressings that with the turkey broth recipes I can make through out the year. For those who love chocolate do not miss the Triple Chocolate Ice Cream Pie. It is to die for, but what a way to go. The title may say it is a Thanksgiving cookbook, but I am telling you you can find recipes to use year round. Do not pass this cookbook by as it can easily become a family favorite.


    The illustrations will have your stomach growling, your mouth watering and your hands itching to pull out your pots and pans to try each and every recipe. You will have to use restraint unless you are planning on feeding an entire platoon. I am grateful that I was able to review this book for NetGalley and the Publishers. Now how about one on the Christmas Goose and complementing dishes to go with it?
