The first in this series had me wonder quietly what will happen if... The second in the series I could not put down for fear of missing the clues to a potential relationship. Will it won't it??? The main character may be a fake medium but I think she can read anyone. Great series by Alice Duncan! Now I am off to buy the next in the series.

In 1920 Pasadena, California, wealthy Mrs. Bissel calls spiritualist Daisy Gumm Majesty to rid her house of a ghost. Daisy tried to persuade her client that she communicates with the spirits but does not do exorcisms, but the distraught widow insists that she only trusts her. Not wanting to alienate a rich patron, Daisy agrees to try, saying she never has done anything like this so may need to experiment.

Daisy quickly concludes that the haunting of the Bissel mansion is more likely occurring due to mortal happenings than that of the other world. She begins to solve the mystery, but also struggles to avoid police detective Sam Rotondo, who she is half in love with though she is married to a disabled vet.

The second 1920s ¿Spirit¿ tale is a strong historical cozy that brings to life a bygone era. The story line opens with a deep look at the 1920 with Daisy¿s party line and the Colorado 13 number and opens the window into the past even further. The ¿ghost¿ turns into a neat trick that haunts Daisy even after she uncovers the truth. Historical readers will enjoy FINE SPIRITS and its predecessor STRONG SPIRITS as both provide interesting glances at Americana.

I have to read all of them! I find myself laughing out loud and thinking out ridiculous some people are! The character development is wonderful! Not only that, but we know these types of people! They are around us....EVERYWHERE! I can relate to the people that Daisy meets, and I certainly can relate to how she feels about many of them. I am usually nodding in agreement with her thoughts, and laughing at how she TRIES to keep her mouth shut but that doesn't always happen. Read the first book before this one...or any of them...just so you can build that bond with the characters and follow them on their journey Alice Duncan gives them. Two thumbs up!

Simply excellent! I couldn't put this book down from the moment I started reading. The lives of Billy and Daisy are truly amazing. The family is unique and Daisy's antics are sure to keep you enthralled. Daisy means well, but always seems to get herself into situations. Her husband¿s friendship with Sam has Daisy on pins and needles most of the time. Truly, this is an excellent book and I can't wait to see another book with Billy, Daisy, Sam and the antics with Daisy's career choice and her well-meaning family.

A good read. A mystery filled with humor set in Ca. in the 1920s. Ms Duncan does a great job of creating the setting for the story, it's very vivid and you can picture the beauty of Ca., the clothes, cars and people. The humor of the situation will have you laughing. ***spoiler the reason I didn't give the book a 4 was because I thought Daisy should have trusted Sam to help her and Eddie. I thought hiding Eddie out in the book store became unrealistic and then her marriage to Quincy was too quick.

Slightly different story than I am used to, so I quite enjoyed it. Like reading period stories, this time right after WW1.
