Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Finger rhymes have long been an important part of a preschool storytime program. Those who like to plan their programs around themes will discover some good material here. Simple patterns are provided for twentyfive programs ranging from apples to ice cream cones, the perennially favorite dinosaurs to ducks and frogs, and seasonal and holiday objects such as Christmas trees, turkeys and pumpkins. The author provides directions for sewing felt characters and making a more simplified version from fun foam. As well as the text for two finger rhymes, she has included bibliographies for each theme that include books, poems and songs. The words for a traditional song or nursery rhyme are included where appropriate. In most cases, she has provided patterns for followup activities. For novices, she gives a concise overview of a wellplanned program format. This is a practical, useful addition to the preschool story time resource shelf. 1999, Alleyside Press/Highsmith Press, Ages Adult, $16.95. Reviewer: Sharon Salluzzo
