    Much too short

This "bonus story" was much too short to be of any real use for getting an idea of what Grossman's upcoming novel is going to be like. The "bonus story" is a mere 10 pages and seems like it was pulled from the ending of a story, possibly the upcoming novel (?). Then, there is a 13-page "preview" of the upcoming novel. This all sounds like it may actually be a good novel, but it's a good think this "bonus story" was free. Otherwise, it would have been a waste of money. Save your time and wait for the novel to come out.

Not Sure What This "Bonus Story" Was?

Perhaps this simply went over my head, but I missed something here. The content was about 24 pages in length, and I expected this to be a short story of crime in pre-World War II Berlin. Instead of being a short story, it seems about half of the pages were a chapter from a story of crime in pre-World War II Berlin. The "story" just stopped in the middle of the 24 pages, then another "story" began in the second half of the 24 pages, and it appeared to be a chapter from a completely different book. I did not bother to read the second "story."

Looking back, it now appears these "Bonus Stories" were simply chapters taken from complete books which are scheduled to be released soon. However, the synopsis did not make that clear to me when it said, "In Finger of Guilt, star investigator Hans Fraksa claims that the Kinderfresser, the vicious child eater of Berlin, has been caught. So why is he worried discarded, gnawed bones will keep appearing? Follow the gruesome case with detective Willi Krauss in The Children of Wrath, by Paul Grossman, coming March 2012." While the last synopsis sentence indicates a book is being released in March of 2012, it does not give a clear indication as to what this material is.

Then again, maybe there is more to it than I saw, and maybe the whole concept of "Bonus Story" just went over my head.

    Best wishes,
    Dave Wile

    more from this reviewer

    Meh

Short story (emphasis on short). Really, it seemed more like a chapter introduction. I was expecting it to actually go someplace, but it seemed more like a teaser or a commercial for some longer story.
