Overview

The war for Avantia has reached its terrifying conclusion!

Tanner, Gwen, Castor, and Rufus have collected three pieces of the ancient mask that bestows the power to control all of Avantia's Beasts to the wearer. Only one final portion remains and it is being held in Derthsin's fiery volcanic lair.

As the group travels toward the furious showdown, Tanner is plagued by the desire to put on the powerful Mask of Anoret. His struggle is amplified by the constant arguing between his friends. Only a united front of these four warriors and their powerful Beasts will be strong enough to defeat Derthsin and his army. The fate of all of Avantia is at stake and Tanner is determined to see that all of their sacrifice has not been in vain. But an unsettling premonition has been following Tanner's progress and the losses may have just begun.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Praise for THE CHRONICLES OF AVANTIA #1: FIRST HERO

"This slim series starter is a good choice for youngsters fascinated by the struggle of good versus evil in the Lord of the Rings movies but not quite ready to take on Tolkien's voluminous text." -Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

"This first volume in a promising new series is fizzy, fast-paced adventure all the way....A slim, easy-to-read, high-interest offering that will be an easy sell to readers just venturing into chapter books." -Kirkus Reviews

Praise for THE CHRONICLES OF AVANTIA #2: CHASING EVIL

"Readers will be clamoring for the next volumes in this gripping, easy-to-read, high-interest series, which is a terrific introduction to the genre." -Kirkus Reviews

Children's Literature - Sandra Eichelberger
This is the fourth book in the “Chronicles of Avantia” series. Four young people, along with the Beasts they are connected to, are trying to save Avantia from the evil Derthsin. They have three parts of the mask that will give ultimate power to the wearer and now they are seeking the fourth part. It is not that they want to use the mask but that they need to keep it out of the hands of the evil Derthsin. Tanner, Gwen, Castor and Rufus have banded together in this quest. Tanner is the leader and his beast is a phoenix. The others have their own unique beast pairings. As Tanner and the phoenix Firepos talk to one another, look out for each other and fight the evil forces, one is reminded of the relationship between Eragon and Saphira. There is also a similarity to the ring in The Lord of the Rings as here the mask offers the wearer ultimate power and calls to those who have worn it, much like a siren beckoning. Blade’s book is fast-paced and engaging. The characters are diverse and their interaction is interesting. As the confrontation with Derthsin looms, the suspense builds in intensity. This is a quick read but it is high powered and action-packed. Young readers will not be disappointed and will thrill over the end of this quest. Reviewer: Sandra Eichelberger; Ages 8 to 12.

Meet the Author

Adam Blade is in his late twenties, and was born in Kent, England. His parents were both history teachers and amateur artists, and Adam grew up surrounded by his father's paintings of historic English battles which left a lifelong mark on his imagination. He was also fascinated by the ancient sword and shield that hung in his father's office. Adam’s father said they were a Blade family heirloom.

Sadly, Adam does not have his own Ice Dragon or Ghost Panther. But he really wishes he did!
