Children's Literature - Elizabeth Fronk
The fourth installment in the “Spirit Animals” series finds Maya, Meilin, Conor and Rollan travelling north across the Northern Eura. They all travel with a “spirit animal” that has unique powers. Meilin grieves for her father’s recent death but also hopes to avenge him in killing the “Devourer,” presumably the evil and ruthless creature that opens this adventure. Soon, they arrive at Samis, an unusual village where no one appears old. The four travelers explain they are looking for Suka, a giant polar bear. They journey on to a village across a narrow channel and the travelling is very treacherous. As supplies dwindle, they see the Ice City where they hope to find Suka. With the help of their spirit animals, they find Suka but still must work to end the Devourer and its followers. Hints of romance between Meilin and Rollan and scars from previous battles pave the way for a fifth installment. For those unfamiliar with this series, it may be difficult to learn much about any of the four travelers or the extent of their mission. While this chapter book can appeal to readers in middle grades and to some reluctant young adults, it is rather confusing if one is unfamiliar with the other books. Fans of the series can enjoy the return of familiar characters and look forward to a fifth installment. A companion website with activities and games is another draw to series’ fans. Reviewer: Elizabeth Fronk; Ages 9 to 12.

You may be wondering why I am posting this even though it is not close to coming out. Well the first two books were so good the rest will be even better!!! So before you read this one you've got to read the first three.

Even though the Spirit Animals series is quite lower than my recomended grade reading level, this book is amazing in my opinion. Rollan gets a blast from the past, while Meilin is trying to refuse the rage of still recovering after her father's death from Blood Ties. Another exiting and equal book to the series with yet again, action, humor, and drama.

Title: Fire and Ice - Spirit Animals Book 4 Author: Shannon Hale Published: 6-24-14 Publisher: Scholastic Inc. Pages: 193 Genre: Children's Fiction Sub Genre: Action & Adventure; Fantasy & Magic; Animals ISBN: 9780545522465 ASIN: B00HG1ND1O Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley My Rating: 5 Stars . Conner, Meilin, Abeke and Rollan, continue to travel the different lands of Erdas searching for the four talismans of the Four Fallen Beast (Briggan the Wolf, Uraza the Leopard, Jhi the Panda, and Essix the Falcon). They were the most powerful beings of their time who sacrificed everything to save Erdas from an evil King. It is believed that with the four talismans they will have the magical power to defeat the Conquerors. In book four the Greencloaks travel to the frozen arctic lands, in search of Suka, the polar bear talisman. They travel and meet some new people, both good and bad. The problem is telling them apart. Jhi and Meilin show signs of a budding romance. Abeke does not fare well in this frozen land. Rollan makes a wondrous find only to have its loss bring him pain and uncertainty in who he can trust. There is a lot of action in this story done at a fast pace to keep readers involved. Please remember this is not a stand-alone book and should be read in order so that the reader does not become lost and confused by the events referred to in the book. This book is another great addition to the series and I look forward to book 5, Against The Tide. My rating is 5 out of stars

I lovd the book! My favorite characters are Abeke and Uraza. Second favorites are Connor and Briggan, third I like Rollan and Essix, but I don't really care for Meilin. This book is amazing, just like the others. I don't usually cry or almost cry during books, but last night when I finished the book, tears welled up in my eyes when and where Rollan had Essix in her passive form for the first time. Right above his heart. Amazing.
