Jolie Wilkins is a psychic who is living life quietly running her fortune telling shop until the mysterious Rand, a warlock, turns up on her doorstep and everything changes forever. Offered a job she can not refuse Jolie travels to Chicago where she discovers her special talent. It is this special talent which causes her to be drawn into a world of vampires, magic and mayhem! Watch out for a fun and fast paced journey into this world as Jolie learns about her new life! Jolie is a very likeable character, she seems very normal (well except the seeing auras bit and all that) and manages to remain so despite all the incredible things which happen to her once she is plunged into the supernatural world after working for Rand. Rand is everything an alpha urban fantasy male should be. Mysterious, hot and more than a little difficult at times, but genuine and wonderful with Jolie. Fire Burn & Cauldron Bubble is set for the main part in England, this is quite unusual for an urban fantasy book but I loved it (being English!!) and thought H.P. Mallory captured England very well. Pelham Manor's description reminded me of many manor houses I've seen (I live fairly close to where Pelham Manor is set) and brought it to life wonderfully. I liked how the characters seemed well rounded and very real to me, not just Rand and Jolie. I felt I knew exactly what Jolie's best friend Christa looked like and was like. The descriptions of how different people saw the fairies was very interesting. Also watch out for the vampire Sinjin, is he what he seems to be? I really enjoyed Fire Burn & Cauldron Bubble, it is excellent fun, sexy and a fast paced read. I am looking forward to the next book in the Jolie Wilkins series, we are left with plenty of questions to keep us coming back!

I'm an extremely picky reader, especially when it comes to the paranormal romance category. It just seems like these books are reproducing like randy rabbits these days and they all sound the same. NOT THIS ONE! I loved it. Looooooooooved it. The writing was fresh, witty, sarcastic, dramatic, and sweet. The plot was original and the characters were lovable and relateable. Vampires, witches, fairies, demons - they're all here and (most) in good humor. I want to be Jolie and I want to do naughty bits with Rand! This story will stay with you. I would definatley put it on par with the Southern Vampire books (Sookie Stackhouse), if not a smidge better.

This e-book packs a lot of punch. Although things in the story seem to progress quickly, it does not feel rushed or glossed over. The writing is descriptive and during the moments you find yourself asking "how" or "why" things are explained so you don't feel lost. The first bit of the book is about Rand revealing to Jolie that she is a witch and has a lot of power. She has an ability that no other witch has, which is bringing back the dead, and that makes her a hot commodity in the Underworld. The rest of the book is about her trying to stay out of the clutches of an evil witch and rallying creatures to join the "good" side. There is plenty of sexual tension between Jolie and the warlock Rand, but that is not all...she has werewolves, vampires, and fairies hot for her too. The heat level was just right for the introduction to the series and it seems promising that it will get a few degrees hotter in future installments. Although this book is supposed to be an urban fantasy/paranormal romance hybrid, I think it leans a little more towards paranormal romance. I think readers of both genres will enjoy this one.
Jolie is a pretty admirable lead character. Although she starts out with almost no confidence in herself, towards the ends she has made progress. She also has a lot of spirit and backbone which was nice to see. Yes she does have to rely on men at times, but that does not make her a weak miss. Sometimes a person has to accept help. Another thing I love about her is that she does not immediately fall into bed with a guy just because she thinks he is sexy. I'll admit there were moments I was rooting for her to do the deed, but I think the wait will only make it hotter when she finally caves and indulges.

Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble is a super fun read that remained with me well after that last page. The heroine, Jolie, is a character every woman can relate to, a character attempting to understand herself and her powers. This book is full of action and suspense that will keep you turning the pages. Attractive heroes and even a love triangle are what make this book more emotional than most and give it a flavor of romance. There are a variety of paranormal characters for every reader's taste. Excellent book for Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance readers.

What a great book! This is a new author that just had two books come out this July so I wasn't sure what to expect. When I got this book and saw the cover I thought right off that this is going to be a funny book. Don't get me wrong, the cover is great, it just gave me the wrong first impression but I was not disappointed. I totally loved this book.
Jolie is a woman who has psychic abilities and owns a store where she does readings. She has the occasional vision and can see people's auras. That's about how exciting her life is in the beginning. She suffers from low self esteem and hasn't dated in over six months. Then Rand walks into her life and changes everything. She grows into a very strong, confident woman and she learns that her powers go way beyond what she previously thought.
Rand is a wizard and is a loner. He doesn't like getting involved with the politics of the underworld but when Jolie manages to get herself right into the middle of all of it he is forced to take her under his protection and employ her to get her out of trouble. Rand is attracted to Jolie and tries to pursue her but she refuses to believe the tall, dark and handsome Rand could want her. After Rand is forced to take her under his protection he decides that he can't have any kind of romantic feelings for her. So there is a lot of sexual tension between the two throughout the book.
The story moves in a steady pace. I never felt that it was moving to fast or slow. The author does a great job making the story flow. For me this book was definitely a page turner and kept me up late at night. The world building was done in a way that felt very natural. It was a very enjoyable and entertaining read. I would recommend this book to fans of paranormal romance and urban fantasy. The book didn't get too hot and heavy so at least this book is OK for a wide range of readers. But trust me the sexual tension is there and I believe that the author has potential to do a great job of making the next book smoking hot. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book in this series. Its going to be a must read for me. You have to give this series a try.

PERSONAL SUMMARY
Girl next door turned powerful witch, Jolie Wilkins will be forced to accept her fate and destiny as part of the Otherworldly creatures. With a dangerously powerful warlock and gorgeous master vampire vying for her attention, Jolie will have to keep her attention focused or risk loosing the war threating all the Otherworldly creatures.
FAVORITE LINE:
And as for me, I'm not really sure if there was much of a difference between me getting my ass kicked inside or outside, but there you have it.
FIRST LINE:
It's not every day you see a ghost.
PLOT:
When I cracked this eBook open and started reading Fire Burn I will be very honest, I was skeptical of what to expect. I have been told many negative things about Indie authors which made me question the quality of their work. I read the blurb to get and idea before hand and was surprised. I immediately thought that the book could have some great potential. I was not disappointed. This book has it all. It was riddled with cliff hangers that pulled you along making it very difficult to leave the story. The plot was well thought out and I enjoyed taking the journey through Jolie Wilkins's POV. I felt the story was well rounded and complete. I am not sure what I enjoyed more, the tug of words and sensual touches shared with master vampire Sinjin or the arousing and sexy tug of emotions with the warlock, Rand. I loved the balances of action and romance that was woven together to create a great plot. The heroines started out as the sweet girl next door while living a life of a quiet shop keeper then shoved into being the one witch the could save the Underworld creatures from forced tyranny from a powerful homicidal witch.
CHARACTERS:
Oh, the characters....
Jolie Wilkins is one hell of a fiery heroine and can belt out While she is not overly aggressive or snarky, she is determined and stubborn. She holds a certain spunk and charm that makes you like her immediately. She demands to know what id going on around her and is not afraid to let herself be known. I mean, if you were positioned and used as a pawn in a war between the Underworld creatures, you would feel a little put out too. She takes the changes thrown at her in stride and accepts that she just might be a little more than a tarot card reader. Being able to reanimate the dead has to put her up there in the 'immensely powerful' category right! And all through the story she always has her best friend at her side.
When the oh-so-sexy and powerful warlock walks onto the page you can't help but fall in love with his sensual side, wishing Jolie and he would both realize the sizzling attraction they share for one another. Then the six-hundred year old master vampire Sinjin is such a sinful treat to behold, you can't help but want him to bite Jolie. It will be interesting to discover his hidden agenda and who will win the affection of the new witch of the Underworld.
LAST THOUGHTS:
Jolie Wilkins is just the right character to take you on an adventure that leads through the dark side of witches and warlocks. Along the way you will meet werewolves and vampires that make your skin crawl and your heart race. Lets not forget the strongest of them all, the fairies and their devilish handsome king, Odran. Ms Mallory did an excellent job writing this paranormal romance. I can't wait for her second book in the Jolie Wilkin's series, Toil and Trouble. Coming January 1, 2011.

I read Mallory's first book in the Dulcie O'Neil series before reading this first book in the Jolie Wilkins series. I loved her other book and I loved this one SOOOO MUCH MORE!!! I couldn't put this book down! As soon as I finished this one I moved right to the second and devoured that as well. I was genuinely depressed when I read the last page of the second book b/c it was over. I am anxiously waiting for the next!
