Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Patent and Munoz's title gives libraries another excellent purchase option in a key subject area." School Library Journal
Children's Literature - Susan Hepler
Discussing forest fires and the effect they have on the world, Patent focuses on the regenerative powers of forests following disaster. Excellent full-color photographs show how burned forests regrow in stages and how animals make their way back to these charred areas. A highlight of this text is the clear explanation of a smokejumper's job, equipment, and training-a plus for vocational education. A discussion of fires in Yellowstone National Park from 1988 to the present provide a vivid example of how fires begin, how they're fought, and the results on a single ecosystem over time. All in all, Patent has delivered another well-researched, clearly explained, and well-illustrated book.
